The Fixer
question
Current authors who write with depth

Hello, back in the 1960s the English department at my high school, Serra in San Mateo, CA, adopted a very forward looking philosophy for our curriculum. Instead of teaching us from the old tired classics, they surveyed the contemporary literary scene and chose authors who were providing for the most part deep and thought-provoking literature, including: Bernard Molamud, Graham Greene, Flannery O'Connor, John Updike along with a few notable exceptions, one being Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov. During this bizarre time of self isolation my wife and I are looking to create our own little stay-at-home book club. We are interested in current authors who provide the same level of depth and style as the authors previously noted. Any and all suggestions are appreciated and welcome.
