The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon was one of those books I wanted to love but it ultimately disappointed. The book is the first in a series of seven which is about a young Dreamwalker, Paige, whose uncontrolled powers lead to her imprisonment by a magical race. I was very impressed that a 21-year old author could write a book of such magnitude and world-building but I felt like I had read versions of it before in other fantasy/magic novels. The narrative was too focused on telling us about this world and the plot dragged on. It seemed to have very divisive reviews, so some readers may love it, it just was not for me.
