Deb | 38 comments I am going to try and read 50 books this year, a goal I didn't quite reach last year! I was more successful in alternating fiction with non-fiction (with allowances for Book Club and Booktopia books). I have bought more books the last two years than I have for ages so my TBR pile is teetering! My TRB pile is still however at the point that fills me with anticipation rather than anxiety which means I can still buy more books this year :)
I haven't decided yet if my readings this year will be random, or I am intrigued with a "6 degrees from Kevin Bacon" approach. Reading something related to the books I've read the last two years - the same topic, the same author, or the next in the series, etc. That might be fun!

I like your outside the box thinking a la Kevin Bacon. Sounds intriguing.

Oooh, the 6 degrees of separation idea sounds like a fun and novel approach!

Readnponder | 125 comments This is a 2015 reading goal of sorts . . . and you all may laugh me off the screen, but here goes. I selected a Lenten reading goal. For 6 weeks, I will not start a new book (except for mandatory book club reading) and instead will finish my partially started books. There are four in particular I hope to finish: "War & Peace" (I hear you, Linda), "Truman", "The Emperor of All Maladies" and "Natchez Burning."

What do these books have in common? They are all bricks masquerading as books. I get waylaid when a book on reserve at the library comes to me, and I set aside my long books to read the one with the limited loan time. Then I lose momentum with the hefty book and procrastinate returning to it.

I hear you, too, Readnponder!

Robin I have set 30 books for my challenge - a lot less than many of you here, but it's my first reading challenge and I think it'll be interesting to see how I do (mom of two littles, working, etc). Definitely want to try to avoid buying books until I have made my way through the lovely stacks that I already own (tough when I keep hearing about fabulous new ones)... and try to keep my list diverse with new authors sprinkled in. So many books, so little time!

A few that are priority:
The Talented Mr. Ripley
All the Light We Cannot See
Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage
Two Solitudes
Mrs. Dalloway
I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
Death Comes to Pemberley

Phew! Wish me luck :)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) Last year, I didn't really have any reading goals except a pure number which I did hit (60). I found when I set my yearly goal too high, I just end up reading shorter books and graphic novels.

This year I set it at 50, but I really like the idea of the Book Riot and 6 degrees of separation. It is sometimes nice to have some overall goals to ensure variety :-D

Amanda | 5 comments Bruno,
In regard to your request for a Dickens recommendation, I enjoyed The Old Curiosity Shop. Of course, there is lots of hardship to get through with the characters, but the character of the pony made it worthwhile. The pony is delightful. However, I must confess that I listened to the audio version rather than reading the book.

Ellen B It's almost March, but after seeing at the end of January that I'd only read 3 books that month--it would usually be more, but work is crazy and I don't have much reading time anymore--I set my GR challenge (because I couldn't make it go away) to 25 books for the year. Like someone else said here, quality over quantity. It might take me a month and a half to read a book, but at least I'll enjoy it.
