Lisa (lisamparkin) | 5 comments Hi Everyone! I just saw this group existed!

I'm also part of a small YA book club in Orlando. How many members regularly attend? We have about 6-7 attendees every month.

Would it be too crazy if we tried combining our book clubs? I know you guys follow Forever Young Adult's book club picks, though, right?

Just an idea! I'd love to meet up with you guys sometime anyway!

Also, our book club selection for January is 100 Sideways Miles. Andrew Smith twins!! ;)

Stephanie (steph01924) | 82 comments Hi, Lisa!

Nice to see other book clubs that exist in this area! I'm relatively new to this group and recently moved back to Orlando after a few years away, so I can't speak for everyone, but I think trying to get our two groups together sometime would be a great idea. The more readers the merrier! The last few months we've had about 4-5 people at each meeting. What are do you guys typically meet in? We usually gather in Sanford. There's another FYA group that meets in Winter Park that we've been talking about meeting up with, too (one of our members goes to both).

It seems like we typically follow FYA's book suggestions, but we have gone off book to other YA titles (like for December we did the short short collection My True Love Gave to Me).

Rachel (librrae) | 127 comments Welcome, Lisa! I'm always up for YA fans coming together :) This group is sponsored? backed? the spirit child? of Forever Young Adult and lovingly promoted on their book club page (though we *do* go "off book" from time to time as Stephanie mentioned!), but we would love to incorporate any super-cool-party-people who just wanna read YA, too!

So how did your book club get together? Are you affiliated with a library or anything?

Whatever happens group-wise, we should TOTALLY have a big par-tay with all of our groups sometime!

Bidding you a super-cool-adieu!
Rachel

Lisa (lisamparkin) | 5 comments Ok, great!! Well, we vary where we meet because our members live across Orlando, BUT, we often have our meeting at my house, which is like 10 minutes away from Willow Tree Cafe!

The last place we met was Infusion Tea in College Park. Also, here's our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/30848...

I started the group and just happened to know a lot of people who also read YA, so it's basically friends and friends of friends.

We vote every month on what books to read based on suggestions, but I like the structure of FYA's club, too.

Like I said, we have everything set up for our January meeting. It's the 8th at my house in Sanford, so if anyone is super into Andrew Smith lol you're welcome to come!

Otherwise, maybe in February we can all join up!! And, yes, please let's party like the awesome book nerds we are!!

Stephanie (steph01924) | 82 comments If I happen to read the book before the 8th, I'll try to show up! I've never read any Andrew Smith before now. I live about 15 minutes from Willow Tree myself.

That's great you know so many people who also enjoy YA books - a few of my good friends do, but they are scattered all across the state/country currently, so there was no one for me to get together with in person to chat about books.

We should definitely try to get a group meeting together in February if nothing else.
