Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

I listened to the audio for this book and it was amazing! Thank you Wil Wheaton. There were slow parts (aren't there always?), but the majority of it was a rush of plot and engaging 1980s game culture trivia. It was a fantastic book to listen to on the way to work.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline has been my favorite read so far in this challenge. I’m not too knowledgeable about the 1980’s and this book is steeped in references, but I enjoyed the geek culture. The story is set in a dystopic future where most of the population spends their time in an immersive online environment called the Oasis. In the Oasis, users can interact with each other, shop, go to school, play games, and work without leaving their homes. The novel begins when the creator of the Oasis, Halliday, dies and states in his will that the user to find his Easter egg (a hidden message) will inherit his fortune and the Oasis. This kick-starts an online pursuit of three keys and three gates that lead to the egg. The novel focuses on a group of five characters racing to find the egg versus an evil corporation whose goal is to own and commercialize the Oasis. The characters and plot are very entertaining and I am looking forward to its sequel.
