"Oh, okay." She smiled, a little disappointed to be losing contact so quickly.

"But if you want, I can go get my stuff and stay here." Jaden offered. He knew that it might be smarter if they stuck together because they could watch out for each other.
"Sure, if y-you want?" She stuttered, happy to have someone to watch her back. She picked up a knife and her gun.
Jaden nodded. "I'll be back in a few and if I don't come back soon, I'm probably dead." He told her. Jaden left the classroom and moved quickly and quietly out of the school. He went toward the library.
Sky's body tensed at his words. She leaned back against the wall, waiting patiently for Jaden to return. Her hair fell in waves down her shoulders as she stared at her gun.
It didn't take Jaden long to gather his stuff from the library. He made it back to the school without seeing any Undead. He smiled slightly, walking back to Sky's classroom.
Sky smiled when she saw Jaden. "Glad to see you're alive." She laughed, taking a small sip of her water.
"Me too. It sucks being dead, or so I've heard." Jaden smiled and set his stuff down near Sky's stuff. He ran a hand through his hair.
Sky moved over, making room for him. "You can sit if you want. You don't have to stand." She offered. Her gun was resting in her lap, a sign of security to Sky.
Jaden sat down next to her. He rested his rifle against the wall next to him. "So Sky, how long have you been on your own?" He asked, curiously.
"A little over a year. You?" She asked, avoiding eye contact. She hated thinking of her family; it was too painful.
"Three, a little over three years." Jaden replied. For him, his family was a faded memory that he tried hard to forget.
"I'm sorry. I know how hard it is to be without family." Sky said softly. She looked over at Jaden, a sad smile on her lips.
"You don't have to be sorry. " Jaden replied. He was staring off into space. He shook his head, trying to clear the memory of when he shot his father. His father had been turning into one of the Undead. Jaden was there as his father began to change. He vividly remembered raising his rifle and shooting his father in the head.
"You okay?" She asked, touching his hand gently. She gave his hand a small squeeze.
He nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine." Jaden felt her squeeze his hand and smiled slightly.
She offered him a piece of beef jerky. "Hungry? I know killing things all day can take a toll on someone after a while." Sky teased.
He took the piece of jerky from her. "Thanks. I also know that running from things that are trying to kill you can take a toll on someone too." Jaden replied with a smile. He was glad to actually have a human to talk to, rather than having conversations with himself.
Sky laughed, eating her own piece of jerky. "Yeah, it can." She looked outside at the dark sky. "We should probably get some sleep." She whispered. Standing up, she began clearing an area where she could sleep so he could have the bed.
Jaden nodded. He stood up and quietly opened his bag. He took out a folded up blanket and a small box of miscellaneous bullets. He opened the box and took out a few that were the right caliber for his rifle. He put the bullets in his pocket.
Sky laid on the floor, using her bag as a pillow. "Good night, Jaden." She said quietly, a smile gracing her lips. It was the safest she had felt in a long time.
"Good night, Sky." Jaden replied quietly. He laid down, looking up at the ceiling. He smiled slightly, feeling safe.
She smiled at the ceiling, knowing that she was no longer alone and it was one of the best feelings in the world. After being alone for so long, having the company of someone else was a dream come true. Finally, Sky fell asleep, her gun resting in her hand.
Jaden smiled and slowly drifted to sleep, his breathing becoming slow and even. He felt safe and somewhat happy, a feeling he hadn't had for years.
