ABANDONED. Old English short story, characters in cottage party between two periods of sleep

Old english short story, characters in their summer cottage with guests. They retire at dawn, sleep a bit then all awake around midnight to have a few brandys and swap stories before returning to bed for the evening. Plot covers a couple days but mainly their habit of gathering between two periods of sleep. Im curious as to the title or author please. Wish i still had my college literature syllabus to look from. Any help is appreciated I know it is vague.
