ABANDONED. Can’t remember book series

It’s a non fiction fantasy book series. It’s a book series about a girl who doesn’t want to go to this training camp for like magical people who protect the world from creatures. But this guy that goes there follows her and tries to make her come. She ends up being like the most powerful one.(or something like that) Something about a Phoenix and how it liked her and listened to her. This camp has a bunch if fictional creatures. There’s one part I remover where’s it’s her first time going on a mission and they go to a movie theater and they kill theses word snake things.
