ABANDONED. pandemic and the american president is allergic to eggs

I read the book around 2005-2009 in pretty much one sitting as it is a lighthearted book with a dark twist. Don't recall author or title.
A pandemic is wiping out the world and a vaccine is being developed but is based on eggs. Prez is allergic so he will require his own dose to be manufactured separately. That's all I can say without giving it all away.
It was not a particularly good book but topical today.
