They rushed the best scenes and there wasn't as much Romitri chemistry as there should have been. There seemed to be more chem b/w Lissa and Christian than w/ Dimitri and Rose. I didn't like it so much.

I feel as though the movie in general was mediocre. The casting could have had some work done to it. The school is meant to be in Montana but they all had different accents, which didn't make sense. I think Zoey did an amazing job playing Rose Hathaway and I think maybe the actress that played Mia did a good job. Danila Kozlovsky did an okay job at playing Dimitri but he barely had any lines in the movie?
I feel as though this movie did deserve its 5/10 because all in all, it wasn't a good production. It was also really rushed, the lust charm scene was meant to be longer and funnier and just sweet but it was rushed and bad in my opinion in the movie.
I think however, this movie did have some good things about it. That inside joke between Rose and Dimitri was funny and it did pay off in the end. I think Domenic Sherwood did look the part of Christian Ozera but his accent threw me off at times.
This movie was mediocre and needs a lot of work to improve.
I feel as though it was just a vampire version of mean girls.
All in all, 4.5/10.
Anybody else agree?

I haven’t read the books yet, but honestly I really liked this movie it was clearly made for sequels I really wish there were more movies. They are why I’m interested in reading the books.
But I guess people have a point Dimitri wasn’t very well cast, he wasn’t all the things Rose said about him.
But I always compared it to twilight I couldn’t understand how that movie franchise got completed. And VA never got one sequel.

I accidentally DVR'd the movie back in the spring. We watched it and loved it. Watched it all the time. Over and over.
Then one day I googled it. And what? It was a book series? I had to go find these books!
They're all online free so I gobbled them up. I didn't read the first one, at all. I figured I wanted to see what happened next. So I read and read and read until the end of Bloodlines and was shocked there were so many threads left open! I freaked!
Then I reread some of the books. Trying to figure out how to come to terms with the abrupt ending and so much left undone.
I started reading fanfiction and some of it was inspiring and wonderful and there's one author that is still writing every week, Gig256. She's writing the books from Dimitri's point of view. I'm also in a VA reading group and we are on Last Sacrifice this month.
Then I realize there were other VA stories, written by Richelle Mead. So I read the ones I could find online.
Then, that's when I thought, I still haven't read the first book. Wow, I found out there are 4 new stories along with the first book in the 10th anniversary edition. So I bought the book.
When I went and read it Id was completely shocked at how awful the movie was. It was bad fan fiction that was loosely based on the book.
One thing that Richelle did say, and I agree, was that the movie did show the playful side of Rose that she'd wanted to come out well. Rose was serious and dedicated and took life very seriously but she had a sarcastic playful side too, that we see in other story lines.
I was hoping they'd make Frostbite in the recent years, they had a different writing team and director and I think it would have had a chance. Sadly the owners don't have any interest in making it and they aren't interested in selling it off either.
Now that we know the movies are pretty much shut down I hope Richelle Mead doesn't give up and never write more stories about our favorite characters.
I want to know how Sonya, Adrian, (I don't like that Sydney segregated Adrian off in Maine and he is denied using Spirit, yes, he needs stability but he has this wonderful gift that he needs to learn how to use effectively. Oksana and Mark can help Jill and Adrian learn to work it out) and everyone solve the Stragoi Vaccine issue then get it distributed to the world. How the Moroi world changes when the Stragoi numbers start dropping off since they'll basically starve to death. I want to know if Rose and Dimitri are able to have biological children or was Olive able to because the female needs to be restored to fix the fertility issue. Is the issue with the female body is what I guess I'm asking.
I tried to write fanfiction and I named Rose and Dimitri's daughter Alissa Rosalena Belikov. For Lissa of course but her nickname would be Ali, and then Rosa for her mom and Olena for Dimitri's mom. They could have a son and name him something to do with Mason and Abraham but also something of a western slant for a nickname.
I want to see more of Oksana and Mark. They have life figured out with Spirit and the bond. They can teach the other Spirit users so much. I want to see how the non-royal moroi grow and progress and less servant like, and the guardians...if the Stragoi are going down in numbers what do the Guardians get to do with their lives now? Do they get to branch out and find new goals? New futures? Do Lissa and Christian stay together and have kids and do they ever build a school at Court? I want to know how Jill and Eddie get along and how Trey and Angeline do and how his family comes to terms with the Moroi world.
In one of the AU fanfiction stories I read there was a Royal Council, a non-royal Council, and a Guardian Council that made up the three parts of the Moroi world government. It was a great story.
I need another series and to see how things turn out for everyone.

The movie was just very mtv and they did not follow some of the book plot line. Mostly I did not like it because it makes Rose seem much worse then she is and Lissa as a helpless little girl. I do not like that when I talk about the books now people say oh ya I watched the movie, did not like it much. Everyone judging the book on the movie.
The movie got me to read the books, so it can't be all bad, I suppose? :)
But yes, as an adaptation, it was terrible. Even ignoring the casting (Phoebe Tonkin is my ideal Rose), they skipped the 'heavier' subjects (Lissa cutting herself, Rose getting shunned by Lissa), butchered or didn't even bother with fan favourite scenes (the necklace scene, the 'see anything you like' scene), emphasized too much on the 'girl power' vibe and the 'be yourself' message (Lissa's speech at the end of the film), and dear god, what was with the accents when they were all raised in St. Vladimir's, which is in Montana?
Makes me glad they didn't go ahead with Frostbite. I'd hate to think what they would have done to my poor Adrian, not to mention how they would have gotten around the secret of Lissa's Spirit magic, which somewhat influences the later plot (not being able to try and reach Rose while Rose is kidnapped since Lissa is cut off from Spirit).

Yes, it was that. I went to go see that movie with such high hopes, hoping it wouldn't be a screw up and I left with my heart broken. Hugest disappointment? The actor who played Dimirti was old. And also how they changed a lot of the plot, especially with Lisa giving that big speech and all. When I was watching it, it felt like it was a movie with bits and pieces of Vampire Academy and the rest of it was just something else. It hurts me that people who haven't read the book go watch the movie and judge the book based on the movie.
I think that Dimitri was over weight he did not look as slim as this

I loved the movie. Still enjoy watching it.
I agree, it's not as good as the book. BUT. If people looked at it as just a move it's a good movie.

to be completely honest i hated the movie. First of all they ruined the image of dimitri for me. Im not saying that the guy that played his role is unattractive and bad at acting he just looked way too old and i just couldn't see any dimitri in him. Also the girls were just a big no no. they made vasilisa look plain stupid and rose was ok i guess. I didn't enjoy this movie at all. They made it look like it was all about comedy which it isn't. Theres action, mystery, serious romance AND comedy. i wished that they had put more of an effort on this movie. The book was AMAZING and deserves the best!
It was not bad, it did relate to the movie. I think some people didn't like it because it was more girly that hardcore. Also it went really fast passed in the beginning.
It skipped over one of my favorite parts. It was when rose got caught with her shirt off and Dimitri stared at her and she said "see anything you like?" I was so MAD!!!!
I thought the actor appearance of Rose was perfect, however she didn't have that Rose vibe of her. I found Christian unattractive, same with Dimitri. The scenes were changed, lines were changed. They cut out best scenes. Like the best line where Jesse and Rose are making out in the lounge in the dark and then Dimtri catches them and drags Jesse and smashes him to the wall and threatens him and then once he leaves. Rose says "See something you like?" That was the best line and they cut that out. And what was up the headmistress and the needle? That was so freaking weird.
And Lissa's magic, you would've thought she would've glowed around herself and her uncle Victor. They lack special effects. Mia was definitely pathetic, she even lacked the goldilocks hair. It was a vampire Mean Girls movie. I mean that they tried to make it into a comedy? What the hell? Vampire Academy is mixed with romance, Drama, Action, Fantasy and a little bit of comedy. I was quite disappointed to be honest. I'm hoping in the future there will be a remake of the movie.

It's unfortunate for Richelle Mead that Hollywood did such a poor job of bringing her book "The Vampire Academy" to the screen. I was so looking forward to seeing the movie, and eventually to see the entire "Vampire Academy" AND "Bloodlines" series brought to life. The books were so well written! I couldn't have been more disappointed. The casting was, as others have said, terrible! I think Deutch was a poor Rose ... she just wasn't 'tough' enough to be the Rose portrayed in the books. Both Fry and Kozlovsky physically could have been Lissa and Dimitri, but both were flat as actors with no character or personality. Overall I think the Director made the movie too 'bubblegum' and should have treated the book/script more seriously. When I read the books I couldn't put them down because of the character development, relationships, and the 'kickass' tough action. All were lacking in the movie. Hollywood ... TRY AGAIN!
The movie made the book look stupid i was so disappointed since the books are effing amazing :( I'll doubt they will keep going with the movies since the first one sucked so bad... I have always thought with long series such as VA that it should be a television show instead of a movie that crams hours of information into a 2 hour time span.
The casting was all wrong. Only Rose was perfect. Everyone else didn't fit the characters. The movie was so over the top. I didn't like it at all.
Casting was definitely terrible, Rose and well everyone was SO not what i had in mind. And don't EVEN get me started on the acting. I really thought the movie was a waste of time and film with such a large fan base you think they would've wanted to do a good job but nah.
Anyway heya, I'm newish here. :)

I pretend it doesn't exist.
Yes, it was that bad. I went to the premiere all excited but stared at the screen wincing the entire time. I can't even. It was definitely a parody of VA- no question about it. They HISS in the movie for Christ's Sake. I mean, come on! The books are so much deeper than that. But what did you expect from the people who made Mean Girls? I pray they don't ruin Frostbite for me. Just please stop.

I was disappointed in the movie. When I read the books I had in my mind what each character looked like. When I saw the movie not one of them looked the way I pictured them in my mind. I was especially disappointed by Rose and Vasilisa. I thought Dimitri needed a personality transplant. He just lacked the charisma of the bad-ass character he was supposed to be. Frankly, the whole movie just kind of felt flat to me. I absolutely LOVED the books...not so much the movie.
Rose was the only person cast remotely right and besides that eeeeeeerthing about the movies was badddd
Well, it was pretty bad. Laughable, even. It became a parody of the book. But I enjoyed watching it because, well, I like parodies, and it was still VA.
Books 1,5 and 6 are the weakest IMO so they didn't have great material to work with in the first place. I thought Zoey wasn't bad as Rose, Lissa was okay, Christian was great, Mia was a let down, Dimitri was standard but Gabriel Burne was brilliant as Victor. But he is an amazing actor anyway (Just watch Vikings or Usual Suspects).
I think they should have done what Game of Thrones does, and incorporated parts of Book 2 into the first film. But that's just me.
I doubt we will see Frostbite, but I could be wrong.

I thought the casting was so wrong, the movie was ok, but could have been so much better, if they got the casting right, because the actor who played Dimitri wasn't really that charismatic, and the clothes were horrible and the girls were so, I don't know, but they weren't what I imagined, and it felt so rushed, they put events from the other books into this movie, only thing that was good were the stunts and the magic play, I thought those were done well!
I saw the movie before I read the books and when I look back the movie was awful. It was full of what I like to call"white washing".Like you know those movies that are so cliche it hurts and suddenly all the white girls seem stupid well that's what I mean. The movie drained the color out of the characters, literally in Rose's case. I just am not feeling the agony ,betrayal,or anything else for that matter watching the movie. Its one of those movies that send me into a rant.
