Val Jane Addams and Nicholas Murray Butler won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1931.

Val I now have a second-hand copy of Jane Addams and the Dream of American Democracy, so will be reading that one and probably some of her own books.

Barbara I really enjoyed this book about the very-inspiring Jane Addams. Pacifist, reformer, pioneer social worker, women's rights activist, author--Jane did it all. She was engaged throughout her life and really made a difference. Truly worthy of her Nobel Peace Prize.

Pink I've just read Democracy and Social Ethics by Jane Addams and it was quite interesting. I agree that she seems a very worthy Nobel Prize Winner.

I doubt I'll read Spirit in Action, as I can't get hold of a second hand copy for a reasonable price, nor does my library have a copy, but I'm glad I read this book by her and looked up some other information about her life online. I'd never heard of Jane Addams before now, but I'm always glad to learn about inspiring women.

Katy (kathy_h) Just picked up this book and started reading. Nicely done first chapter.
I really love the idea of this challenge -- now to just get reading on it a bit more.

Val Jane Addams and the Dream of American Democracy by Jean Bethke Elshtain was interesting, although a bit dry and academic. The author orders the book by theme rather than strict chronology, so I got a good sense of what Jane Addams was concerned with during her life.
