To prove you are unaware against the health insurance industry? Prove a negative? Good luck with that. The cost of the attorney would put me on the streets.

In the American legal system against a health insurance company, I wouldn't be able to afford the lawyer to defend against it. Besides, proving I didn't know I had it would be difficult - it is almost impossible to prove a negative.
And, as Scout stated, "any info ... can be used against you in the future in ways you can't imagine today."

Or you are a very good paralegal working for good lawyers - which used to be my life.

Seeing how legislation initiatives develop I begin reconsidering my initial stance that there was nothing to worry. Too many grabbed this opportunity to curtail some privileges and develop "emergency" bypasses .
As one of the neighbors obtained justice portfolio the demonstrations aimed against draconian "temporary" legislation moved practically to my doorstep :)

I don't think it started out as that. I do think that the government and politicians are using it as such. I think that big pharm will also. Some religions will use it as a predicate of end times - because that always happens.

This came to mind immediately when I learned of two things that had bypassed me until last night in regards to American government.
1) While we were looking the other way the government has denied sanctuary for children who are at risk from violence and other bad things happening to them because they may carry the virus. The one in the news concerns a 13 year old from El Salvador. Her mother is here, mom did the proper process. Mom was a police officer in El Salvador who refused to go along with the gangs. Her daughter after making her way to the border in April was prevented from even requesting asylum. We put children trying to enter America in custody on a regular basis. We couldn't have done that for those seeking asylum from potential and in this type of situation, to be expected, persecution/ violence/ murder?
2) Earlier this month our government dictated a more limited definition of sexual discrimination. Those who are transgender were included in that protection under sexual discrimination during the prior president's 1st term. Now that has been thrown out and you can discriminate against transgender persons without consequence. Gender is now specifically limited to biology. Aside from my 2nd marriage ending because he became she - and knowing how difficult that journey has been (no surgery - can't afford it - only hormones and psychological counseling), which is now denied to her under the new definition.
Setting aside being unsure of my own beliefs in regards to both of these subjects, which I admit is mixed; these are both decisions that we should be concerned about. Anything that allows for and contributes to discrimination and to denying the right to request asylum, diminishes humanity.
These 2 things happened that I now am aware of after the fact; but I wonder what else I missed because all our news and focus has been wrapped up in the corona virus and the affect it is having on our economy, together with the protests and continuing police actions.

Scout, I never thought you did think that. I am reasonably confident there was no Chinese conspiracy, but there was ineptitude, and of course there is always the possibility of people taking advantage of the crisis.
