It was a convenient plot device. I knew when Charlie went with the group to check out the caves, he wouldn't be coming back alive. He withheld too much information and made too much trouble for the agency. Now he had decided to help them out (if they helped find Ashley Fox) and he wanted to redeem himself in Sonia's eyes. He was ready to die a hero one way or another.
Charlie was always trying to be the hero, even to the very end. I'm glad that he finally stepped up to save Sonia.
I agree with Anita. Jumping in after Sonia was just another way for him to be a hero and hopefully get back on Sonia's good side. I wasn't expecting him to die though.
I also thought Charlie was trying to be the hero, to possibly redeem himself and not necessarily because he was truly sorry. He just wanted his old life back. So, thought I thought his death was convenient, it was also true to character but he didn’t count on falling on a rock.
I would like to see a conclusion to the Ashley Fox angle.

So would I, Jonetta. Not having a conclusion to the Ashley Fox mystery bugged me. For a short time I thought the girl the pulled from the river was her.
