C. G. Telcontar Martin has stated seven. I think, due to the monstrous amount of material, characters and plots he has yet to resolve, it will take 8 books. What say you all?

Julia Maybe. He does tend to do that. But he has released possible names for the last two books. And I think he's anxious to be done. We shall see.

I did notice they now have a cover for Winds of Winter. So there is some progress being made.

Elia I have seen interviews with him where he has said that he's actually afraid he might die before he finishes the books. He has already given the producers of the shows information about how he plans to end each character's story arc just in case, so this seems to mean to me that he already knows how it will all end, therefore if he says 2 books, it's probably 2 books. Of course they are likely to be pretty massive books.

Christina I hope that he will finish it up in two books, but after reading the previous two books in the series, I am doubtful. I just can't fathom wrapping the story up in two books at this point, but I'll wait and see how Martin goes about tying the loose ends.

Hannah Kelly Seven total. Two more to go. The Winds of Winter and The Promise of Spring.

Rubyna Jinnah Although I enjoy these books, it is a daunting task getting through them. Another 2 books, possibly more?? Yikes!

message 7: by James (new)

James I believe that there are seven books in total in the series and I hope he completes the book sometime soon before he dies.'

Vickie I hope he finishes the books before I die! I'll have to reread the 5 before I tackle six and seven!

Kiana Noelle Elia wrote: "I have seen interviews with him where he has said that he's actually afraid he might die before he finishes the books. He has already given the producers of the shows information about how he plans..."

Is he sick or something? Or just old...? Or kidding...?

Scott Flicker I think Martin will need at least 3 more books even though he claims there will only be 2 more based on the amount of storylines. I think we will get a better idea once the next book is finally published. Maybe a lot of the characters will meet up in the next book which should speed things up a lot. He could also kill off a ton of characters. I think Martin met with the GOT TV show producers since it appears the show will pass the books.

message 11: by Zeb (new) - rated it 5 stars

Zeb Kantrowitz Since most of the book is based on sevens (like seven kingdoms) Martin has stated that this is the maximum. But knowing how smart and sneaky he is, don't be surprised if the last book has three or even four parts. In Europe they have been publishing all of the first five books in two parts, so why not here.
