This is the first book in a series about the wimpy kid targeted at slightly older children in KS2, written by Jeff Kinney. This comical book is very popular among older children, following the life of Greg Heffley through his diary. The book contains many handwritten notes with simplistic cartoon-like drawings. This book could be sued to explore diary entries, formal and informal writing, speech and could be linked with art by creating illustrations for the text.
Although this book is very popular due to the film adaptations, the book explores some more adult themes about the thoughts of a teenage boy which may not be suitable for the younger children that read this book. Similarly, lots of negative themes are explored throughout such as creating humour of mild bullying. Not a positive message for children.
