a girl who’s biological mother is evil and magical but she was taken from her really young. later she meets a runaway boy slave with a tongue piercing who is very shy and skittish. it’s not about like southern slavery in the 1800’s as the boy was white and the girls mother had magic powers of some sort. i read part of this book in 2014 and can’t remember the title or author. please help it’s driving me crazy!
