I am interested in your anthology and would like to submit a short story for consideration. Please let me know how to go about this.

Hi Mike. There's still space. This is a cut and paste from the top of the thread:

I'm putting together a book of short stories, for which the common factor is that all the authors in many locations across the world have to write their piece during the period when they were stuck at home during the coronavirus outbreak. These stories are not about the virus itself but an historical snapshot of creative minds across the spectrum still ticking over during the days of the virus.

Details: Multiple subjects, any genre except fan-fiction (copyright infringement problems). Word count 2,000 to 5,000. Publication on KDP paperback and ebook. Absolute deadline 20th June. No previously published stories please, or text not written between 23 March and 20 June 2020 incl. This is non-profit publication (sale price to cover KDP production costs and cover art).

If you want to write a story for this publication and add another writing credit to your name, pm me or email faith@workmail.com soon so you're visible.

Sounds like you've been busy. Good luck with the screenplay submissions!

message 54: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments At the five week mark, seven stories are ready. I think we need at least ten to make a volume.

message 55: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Geduld | 18 comments I'm so thrilled that Faith accepted my story "Who Shall Profit" for the anthology. It's about a cat-and-mouse relationship between two corrupt MCs who use the pandemic to try to take advantage of each other.

message 56: by Magnus (new)

Magnus Stanke (magnus_stanke) | 14 comments Nice one, Carolyn!
Does that mean you've got 8 now, Faith? Only 2 more to go, and the deadline's not until 20 June?

message 57: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Hi Magnus and Carolyn. Even better, I have 9 stories received, accepted and formatted so far, totalling about 30,000 words. The subjects are all different, which is ideal.

message 58: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments The book cover design has arrived but I can't add attachments here, can I? The names of all authors still need to be added to it but I don't know them all yet.

A. Nation (anation) | 16 comments what genre do you need or does it matter?

message 61: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Hi. Any genre is fine, except fan fiction. PM me if you want to check if another author has had a similar idea. Good luck.

message 62: by Dale (new)

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 5 comments Faith wrote: "Progress update at the two months to go mark: 3 stories have been completed so far and I've found a suitable cover artist."

Hi Faith. My story is still in progress. I have most of it together but am struggling a bit with the ending. Also, I think I might be coming in pretty close to the 5,000 word mark. How rigid are you about the max length (just in case I go over a bit)?

message 63: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Hi Dale. How about 5,250 tops? I have eleven stories accepted so far and the cover art. Email me!

message 64: by Dale (new)

Dale Lehman (dalelehman) | 5 comments Thanks, Faith. Email coming.

message 65: by Ville (new)

Ville Kokko | 52 comments I've written the beginning and the ending of my story now. I expect the rest will come pouring out some time soon when I have time to sit down with it. Then I'll want to let it simmer a bit and edit it. The genre is fantasy, by the way - I don't think I mentioned that before.

message 66: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Ville wrote: "I've written the beginning and the ending of my story now. I expect the rest will come pouring out some time soon..."

Hi Ville. That sounds on track. We have 11 stories ready so far plus Dale's sci-fi, which I will read soon, (that's 37 days before the deadline). None are from the fantasy genre yet, so yours will be welcome. If you can email me, I'll send a copy of the cover design.

message 67: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Dale's sci-fi story turned out to be really good, so we have 13 stories completed now. There's a month left so fingers crossed we can reach 20.

message 68: by Magnus (new)

Magnus Stanke (magnus_stanke) | 14 comments Yeeha! Onwards and upwards. I've heard from somebody that their story is nearly a done deal, too...

message 69: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Thanks Magnus. We have lots of drama, humour, indirect romance and sci-fi but no gothic vampire legends so far, which feels like a gap.

message 70: by Magnus (new)

Magnus Stanke (magnus_stanke) | 14 comments "Indirect romance?", eh? Impressive.
Not sure you'll get gothic vampire legends from the source I know, though... ;)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments 19 stories have been accepted so far and it's going to be a good book.

message 72: by Ville (new)

Ville Kokko | 52 comments I had that inspiration I predicted in my last post, and I've written almost all of the story now, just missing a few scenes between the rest. I realised this is a really dark story. I'm also going to have difficulty staying within the word limit, but maybe I can streamline the existing text.

message 73: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Ville wrote: "I've written almost all of the story now. I realised this is a really dark story. I'm also going ..."

Hi Ville. A couple of authors went about 350 words over but their stories were still tight, so can you keep it under 5,350? Dark is okay because we have some friendly ones for balance. There's a lot of variety in this one.

message 74: by Ville (last edited Jun 01, 2020 12:53PM) (new)

Ville Kokko | 52 comments I'm trying, but as it is, I haven't yet figured out how to get it much below 5,500.

message 75: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Ville wrote: "I'm trying, but as it is, I haven't yet figured out how to get it much below 5,500."
Hi Ville. Okay, send it to me and if it would be damaged artistically to shorten it, I'll consider it as it is.

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Ville wrote: "I'm trying, but as it is, I haven't yet figured out how to get it much below 5,500."

Hi Ville. Just send it as it is (the long version). I've found it impossible to police the word count and don't want to apply it to some and not others.

message 77: by Faith (new)

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments Hi everyone. This is an update to say that ten days before the submissions deadline we have 20 stories across a broad range of subjects, totalling 71,558 words and 208 pages. I can fit in a couple more before this goes to press.

message 78: by J. (new)

J. (jdrew) | 308 comments Mod
Hi Faith,
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing the finished book. I'm guessing it is going to be really good. Which means I'll have to be hyping it once it's for sale.

Faith Jones (havingfaith) | 61 comments J. wrote: "Hi Faith... I'm guessing it is going to be really good."

Hi J. I think the collection has turned out really well. Some stories are such impressive flights of the imagination that I considered taking my one out. It is exciting to bring this to press and I can't wait to see the reaction from readers. Nearly there!

I don't understand this comment. Apart from the contents table, the book has 3 stories in the first 30 pages and they don't mention any other people, just their own characters. Is the comment about a different book?

Thanks so much for including my story.
I’ve ordered my copies which are due to be delivered tomorrow.
Am looking forward to reading it and sharing copies with family and friends!
Thanks again!

Thanks Dale. I think you've got the first paperback to arrive. I haven't seen the finished book yet and the delivery estimate for my order is for Tuesday 7th. Let me know if there are any imperfections.

Thanks Julia. Sorry your story was near the back but when it came in with a couple of days to go I'd already type-set the book and didn't want to fuss about with reordering the page numbering. Hopefully you'll love the other stories too and be forgiving! I'm due to receive my copies next week. It seems to be gaining popularity already on Kindle Unlimited but may go up again when it's promoted on Bargain Booksy next week.

Hákon Gunnarsson | 16 comments I’ve ordered my copy, but not sure when I’ll get it. Shipping to Iceland has been a bit slow lately. Maybe it is getting better now.

I’ve done a little bit of promoting, blogging about the book here, and mentioned it on Facebook as well.

Hi all,
My paperback copy should arrive next week. I can't wait to read all the stories and then be able to add some review info to my blog, FB, GR and website posts. Looking forward to getting it.
Thanks again, Faith for all your work.

Well, I like dog movies / novels too, but I’m not sure what that has got to do with this anthology though. If you’re looking for recommendations, then maybe you should have posted this to a different thread?
