I'm putting together a book of short stories, for which the common factor is that all the authors in many locations across the world have to write their piece during the period when they were stuck at home during the coronavirus outbreak. These stories are not about the virus itself but an historical snapshot of creative minds across the spectrum still ticking over during the days of the virus.
Details: Multiple subjects, any genre except fan-fiction (copyright infringement problems). Word count 2,000 to 5,000. Publication on KDP paperback and ebook. Absolute deadline 20th June. No previously published stories please, or text not written between 23 March and 20 June 2020 incl. This is non-profit publication (sale price to cover KDP production costs and cover art).

At the five week mark, seven stories are ready. I think we need at least ten to make a volume.
I'm so thrilled that Faith accepted my story "Who Shall Profit" for the anthology. It's about a cat-and-mouse relationship between two corrupt MCs who use the pandemic to try to take advantage of each other.

Hi Magnus and Carolyn. Even better, I have 9 stories received, accepted and formatted so far, totalling about 30,000 words. The subjects are all different, which is ideal.
The book cover design has arrived but I can't add attachments here, can I? The names of all authors still need to be added to it but I don't know them all yet.

I've written the beginning and the ending of my story now. I expect the rest will come pouring out some time soon when I have time to sit down with it. Then I'll want to let it simmer a bit and edit it. The genre is fantasy, by the way - I don't think I mentioned that before.

We have 11 stories ready so far plus Dale's sci-fi, which I will read soon, (that's 37 days before the deadline). None are from the fantasy genre yet, so yours will be welcome. If you can email me, I'll send a copy of the cover design.
Dale's sci-fi story turned out to be really good, so we have 13 stories completed now. There's a month left so fingers crossed we can reach 20.
Yeeha! Onwards and upwards. I've heard from somebody that their story is nearly a done deal, too...
Thanks Magnus. We have lots of drama, humour, indirect romance and sci-fi but no gothic vampire legends so far, which feels like a gap.
"Indirect romance?", eh? Impressive. Not sure you'll get gothic vampire legends from the source I know, though... ;)
19 stories have been accepted so far and it's going to be a good book.
I had that inspiration I predicted in my last post, and I've written almost all of the story now, just missing a few scenes between the rest. I realised this is a really dark story. I'm also going to have difficulty staying within the word limit, but maybe I can streamline the existing text.

A couple of authors went about 350 words over but their stories were still tight, so can you keep it under 5,350? Dark is okay because we have some friendly ones for balance. There's a lot of variety in this one.
I'm trying, but as it is, I haven't yet figured out how to get it much below 5,500.

Hi everyone. This is an update to say that ten days before the submissions deadline we have 20 stories across a broad range of subjects, totalling 71,558 words and 208 pages. I can fit in a couple more before this goes to press.

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing the finished book. I'm guessing it is going to be really good. Which means I'll have to be hyping it once it's for sale.

I get annoyed when the author throws out ten or fifteen (: different people's names in the first thirty pages. I spend so much time chasing names, I miss the introductory plot points.Evelyn Timidaiski

Apart from the contents table, the book has 3 stories in the first 30 pages and they don't mention any other people, just their own characters. Is the comment about a different book?

Thanks Dale. I think you've got the first paperback to arrive. I haven't seen the finished book yet and the delivery estimate for my order is for Tuesday 7th. Let me know if there are any imperfections.

Thanks Julia. Sorry your story was near the back but when it came in with a couple of days to go I'd already type-set the book and didn't want to fuss about with reordering the page numbering. Hopefully you'll love the other stories too and be forgiving! I'm due to receive my copies next week. It seems to be gaining popularity already on Kindle Unlimited but may go up again when it's promoted on Bargain Booksy next week.
