At the moment I am reading The Absent One (department Q #2) by Jussi Alder-Olsen (physical book), The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult (e reader) and listening to The Naming of the Dead (Inspector Rebus #16) by Ian Rankin on audio. I hope to have all three completed by the end of the week.
I've chosen Faithful Place (Dublin Squad #3) by Tana French and The Redbreast (Harry Hole #3) by Jo Nesbo as my next physical books, The Detective's Daughter by Lesley Thomson (e book) and From the Dead by Mark Billingham (audio) and I am hoping to be well into these books before the week's end.
I'll read every day because that's what I normally do and I'll keep track of what I have read.
I'm not sure about the challenges - I'll look and see if I have time to complete any

The Absent One - read 66 pages
The Storyteller - read 22 pages
Naming of the Dead - 3 hours 10 minutes
I also entered a giveaway for a book - always need more books!

The Absent One 94 pages
Naming of the Dead 1 hr 15 min
Total pages so far: 182
Time listened: 4 hrs 25 minutes

The Storyteller: 5 pages. I am only reading a small amount on my e reader at the moment as I tend to use it when I'm out and about on public transport, in cafes etc which I haven't done much of this week.
Naming of the Dead: 1 hr 5 min
The Absent One: 78 pages/finished
The Redbreast: 17
Total pages so far: 292
Time listened: 5 hrs 30 minutes
Review of The Absent One by Jussi Alder-Olsen.
I'm really enjoying this series although this one was not quite as good as the first one, Mercy (Keeper of Lost Causes in the US). I prefer not knowing "who done it" until the end of the book not from the begining as in this novel.
Carl Moeck is a dark, flawed detective that still has a wry sense of humour. I love the character of Assad who is Carl's sidekick. He started of as just a general dogs body when Department Q was set up but soon became an asset in solving the cold cases. There is obviously a background story to Assad which we don't know yet but am looking forward to finding out.
Rose is a new character who fits in very well with the two men. She is bolshy and speaks her mind which Assad misinterprets as being nice and tries to get Carl to be more gracious towards her.
A great series to read for the lovers of Scandinavian crime.
