Joe Boughton | 3 comments I read the book in the mid 90's. A hit man is hired by corporate leaders the assassinate President Bush, the Vice President, the Supreme Court justices in an effort to overthrow the government and bring the people they want into power.
If I remember correctly the hero of the book was either an army or marine lawyer. His girlfriend was military as well. Pretty sure she was a marine.

Possible spoilers from chapter one and two. In the first chapter the hit man kills the go between who hired him and disposes of the body by putting it in an abandoned mine and using explosives to collapse it.
The hit man uses surface to air missiles to shoot down the Presidents helicopter as he's leaving the Whitehouse heading to camp David.

Definite spoiler ahead! Martial law is declared in Washington DC, the military begins arresting people for various crimes. The fed up citizens of the community take over the detention facility, the hero tries to stop them thinking they're trying to free them. He gets knocked unconscious in the struggle, when he wakes up the facility is empty, his girlfriend tells him they weren't setting the criminals free they took them out and hung them.

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 5384 comments Great, you're very welcome!
It seems very risky to write a novel about real, living, very important people and use their real names, especially when those important people are still in office.
Dan Quayle appears to be a heroic character.
