I just downloaded Simone by Eduardo Lalo—I'm researching Puerto Rican authors and his name popped up. His novel, so far, seems very grounded in Puerto Rican neighborhoods—the smells, the sounds, the energy. I traveled to the island a couple of years ago; now, I'm viewing the barrios in an entirely new light. The power of fiction!

Also reading lots of old New Yorkers - no better time!

I've been waiting for The Starless Sea to become available through my library, but I LOVED The Night Circus, Erin Morgenstern's other book. Have you read it?

No way, that's awesome! In addition to this month's book, I'm now also reading an older fantasy novel, Ombria in Shadow. There's magic, to be sure, but the vibe is pretty different from The Night Circus. Hope you like that one!
