SOLVED. Thriller about a monster/experiment that attacks the Pentagon? [s]

I've been searching everything I can think of for this book. This is what I can recall:

-A government experiment goes wrong and it attacks the Pentagon.

-The cover (if memory serves me correctly) featured an image of the pentagon and was blue-ish in color.

It wasn't my usual fair, may be considered military/scifi/thriller? I know I felt sad for the creature, possibly because the protag was in a way connected to it?

I'd appreciate any help. This is driving me crazy.
