After a harrowing tour in Afghanistan, intelligence officer Amy Cornwall is eager to return home to her husband and their young daughter. But as soon as she steps into the house, she knows that something is terribly wrong.

HER FAMILY IS MISSING

The kidnappers leave a message: if she wants to see her husband and daughter alive again, Amy must complete a near impossible task...and she has 48 hours to do it.

SHE'LL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BRING THEM HOME

Alone, afraid and officially AWOL, Amy will sacrifice everything to find her family – her career, her reputation, maybe even her own life...

Beth White (betherly) | 225 comments What a way for the book to start! The first sentence and the premise is set and the family are missing. Fast moving much?! Also, clear already that the character writing in first person is a military man before even reading this fact, from the precision element of knowing they are missing within “33 seconds”. Not 30. Not a minute. 33. Lol!

Frank White I’m loving the rapid pace of this book! Whilst pacy though it still manages to not feel rushed. It just fills you with the same sense of urgency that the characters are feeling in these chapters. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses...

Frank White Chapter 45 now. It’s interesting to see the dynamic of how the perspective flits chapter to chapter between a range of different characters. It achieves two major things for me. The first is that it gives you a very deep insight into each of the characters, not just as they are outwardly, but also their more intimate internal soliloquies, thoughts and feelings. It also adds an extra layer of tension as you can find yourself enthralled in a tense and exciting chapter, only to then have the chapter end and the next chapter start in the POV of another character (sometimes a character from that same scene that has just been described) leaving you dangling on a cliffhanger anxious for the perspective to change back again and resume that story. This dynamism to how the story plays out really ratchets up the tension another notch for me, whilst also making me feel more invested in each of the characters, rather than just the lead, Amy.
