Since this is an ongoing series, I thought the level of romance was perfect. So many romantic suspense books ramp up the romance/sex and the couple declares there love after only knowing each other three days. I find that unrealistic. This will give us (and them) a chance to get to know each other.
I agree with Robin. I liked Mercy and Truman together and I look forward to seeing their relationship develop in the series.
I agree. It is more realistic that they would take it slow. Mercy isn't an open person and needs to step slowly. Also, both Mercy & Truman are committed to their careers. It would be inappropriate to become involved too quickly during the investigation.

The romance/sex is too full on and sometimes inappropriate in the middle of a murder investigation. The way it was handled in this book matched the tone of the writing.
I think the author got this just right. Slow, cautious, and yet acknowledgement of their mutual attraction. I loved both these characters together.

Me too Lisa. Karen Rose's books don't bother me so much. There are some romance writers who are trying to move to the romantic suspense genre, but their books are still more romance and the suspense feels like an afterthought.
I thought this book was barely able to be called a romance as the romantic elements were few. I labeled this a mystery first and foremost and a romantic suspense second because the barely romance aspect. I didn't mind. I actually liked the pace of the romance because, as many of you pointed out, romantic suspense books sometimes push the romance to a point it doesn't feel authentic because it's so rushed.

But I'm finding I like this lately. Sometimes as you mentioned the romance seems unnecessary and even incongruous in some thrillers/murder mysteries.
It’s actually classified on Goodreads as a mystery, though about half of those classifying added romance. The author bills it as mystery.
