We knew from the flashbacks that there were two men who attacked Rose. One of them was shot by Mercy and Levi. Levi said he took care of the body. I kept wondering if that person was really dead. And, what happened to the second person. Was he local and still in town?
I think I assumed the murderer was the second guy, but whether he was around the entire fifteen years was my question. I also wondered why on earth he tied himself to those earlier crimes by bashing the mirrors. Seemed completely foolhardy to me.
I thought at the time that Levi’s appearance was way too coincidental! He was on my suspicion list from that moment forward (not suspect), especially when he unilaterally handled the dead body and went after the second person without success. I didn’t believe his story.
I agree with you Jonetta. I wondered how Levi was involved with the old murders. I was sure the man Rose and Levi killed wasn't dead, but disfigured in some way. It made me think he was locked up in a mental hospital all this time. I thought he was smashing mirrors because he couldn't stand the way he looked. Possibly at the hospital, they kept him away from mirrors.
Sometimes, I come up with weird ideas and way off track. LOL
I knew the one guy had to be dead only because a prepper seemed to be the type of person who would definitely hit what he shot at and not just to wound. I did think Mercy connecting the new case with the 15 year old unsolved one was a stretch but I could see how the shattered mirrors would put her into a flashback PTSD situation.
I'm used to reading Sandra Brown or even Karen Rose, whose plots are a lot more twisty. I suspected that the second murderer worked for the other rancher/prepper leader and was one of the group of boys from the incident in Truman's past.. and I was right. Although I suspected it was the son so was a bit off there.
I didn't get the mashing of mirrors. I kept looking for reasons as it was obviously a common thread between all the murders. And I'm not entirely sold on it being done because of the belief of vanity being evil and thus tied to looking at one's image in a mirror. Crazy.
