MJ | 1617 comments Erotica? 3013: series rocks, but you’ve got to look around the sex (polyandry, ménage) to see the interspace and planetary worlds and races. I don’t mind most of the sex and all, but I have found myself rereading and just wanting it to have less sex, more world. The last few books were struggling (IMO), but the WORLD these authors have built is awesome.

Would make a great tv series.

Leslie The Bobiverse series is a riot!

Dennis E Taylor builds legions not worlds! And at least one well-developed culture and world the "Bobs" encounter.

Leslie Also, Children of Time series by ADRIAN TCHAIKOVSKY, in this series humans are trying to speed up evolution for a teraforming project when things do not go as planned and something unexpected happens.

Space aliens with earthly origins, aliens whose consciousness is "these of we" (loved that), and just an all around original story line IMO! But to get to some of that you have to read (or listen) through more than one book. I listened on audible. Worth it on my long commutes!

Leslie Levy Seven, I joined this group to find out the long lost science fiction book written in 1975 which I read at age 10 and inspired my lifelong interest in science fiction. While I forgot much of it I never forgot it entirely even though I read it over 40 years ago! This group led me back to that book. I would be doing a disservice if I did not also recommend Alan Dean Foster's book Mid World! This book is excellent for world development. But again the story has earthly origins which is not an exact match for what you asked for. However many books were written by Alan Dean Foster which I have not read and are based on the subject of this book in a very long series. Maybe you will find some aliens there!

Some lists indicate this is a book in a series and other say it's a standalone. Good luck on your hunt for a great sci-fi books! I'm watching this thread to get great ideas as well! Thanks for posting!
