ABANDONED. Sci-Fi book about aliens turning Earth into a hunting reserve

I read it in the mid-90s, but it might have been older. The first half of the book (I think this part was in a first-person narrative, like a journal) is about how the aliens took over and what the remaining humans did to survive. The second half was about the son/grandson of the storyteller from the first part. The aliens have turned earth into a hunting reserve and have brought creatures from other planets and even dinosaurs for them to hunt. They use captured humans with control collars as hounds to hunt the creatures they brought there. There was a giant bear-like alien called Grey- something. He was super tough, and I think even the aliens that brought him there, avoided him. He was on the cover of the book. The guy helps a girl who was a hound, and they sneak onto the alien ship. Any ideas on the name?
