A very exciting game tonight, played in pouring rain at the MCG. Collingwood came out like a train, three goals scored before the Bombers had even touched the ball and you were thinking just how much of a bloodbath is this going to be. But the Dons held their nerve and seemed to have the game in the bag at three quarter time. The Pies weren't done though and fought back to be within 3 points with 8 minutes still to go. The momentum was all theirs and again, I thought my Dons were gone for all money. Luckily 2 quick goals saw them home. If only I had tipped them ......

The Suns were looking so good right up until their star young gun Matt Rowell was tackled to the ground and dislocated his shoulder. Fingers crossed this won't be the end of his season. Gary Ablett (Geelong) was playing his 350th game. When he was Captain of the Suns in 2014, the team was having its best ever season up until he dislocated his shoulder. It ended his season and he only played a handful of games in the following couple of years. Ablett, twice winner of the Brownlow medal for best and fairest player, was the first to support Rowell after the game and offer any advice he could.

The Saturday night blockbuster game was dubbed a potential Grand Final preview. But only one team looked like a Grand Finalist with the Lions handing out a humiliating lesson to the ladder leaders.

With Covid-19 continuing its resurgence in Victoria, all 10 Victorian teams will fly out of Melbourne on Monday to set up camp in other states. Carlton, St Kilda, Richmond, Essendon, North Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs will head to Queensland. Melbourne and Hawthorn will be based in Sydney, while Collingwood and Geelong will first spend a week there but then be based in Perth. This should mean that the AFL can plan its fixture a bit more securely than its current week by week plan.
