[Amber]

My book is called "The Poet X", detailing the life and struggles of the main character, Xiomara. She is fifth-teen, Dominican, and lives in Harlem with her parents and twin brother. She feels unheard but is also not afraid to stand up for herself and get in fights and she is fierce when she needs to be. It initially starts off discussing her body, which is detailed throughout the book. She is curvy and developed for her age and talks about her experiences as someone with this type of body. She gets unwanted attention from boys and sometimes men. The book also has themes of religion, culture, and growing up. She comes from very religious house hold but she is questioning her faith while at the same time bumping heads with her mothers beliefs.
