Anna Eleanor was doubting her parents. Recently this new group had been created at her high school--her new high school--for newcomers and just really anyone wanting friends. They could talk about high school in general, or discuss classes and things people liked doing. She had agreed to going to check it out, but still, the idea of having to talk to people? She couldn't!

Eleanor had been deaf since birth, and because of that, she was also mute. She didn't know how to speak otherwise and could only sign--but that she was good at. Still, no one else knew how to do that, so she had brought along a pad of paper and a pen to write out messages to people.

She was nervous, but she didn't want to disappoint her family. She could give it a try. That much couldn't hurt. Besides, it would be nice to know people around high school.

Eleanor had just come from her English class--she had to read things from off the board and "read" what the hired translator was translating for her--and reached the library a few minutes later. She pushed through, a few other girls walking out and possibly laughing about something from the looks of their mouths.
Room 202.
She paused in front of the door, then pushed inside.

Samuel sat in a chair in the far corner of the room. He knew or at least he hoped that no one would notice him. On his lap was a notebook that he took everywhere, inside were drawings of different things. Samuel glanced up from his notebook and glanced around, he sighed as he looked at the other children that were sitting. He didn't want to be there, he hated being around people. But his social worker, Anna said he should try it out. And that's the only reason he is here, she is the only person he can stand being around. Sam has been in the system for twelve years now, and that's how long he has not spoken to anyone.

The loud sound of the door opening, got everyone's attention even Samuel's. It was girl, a girl that Samuel never saw before but soon he lost interest and went back to his notebook. "Okay everyone. I want you all to introduce yourself." said Maya, she was the adult over the group. Samuel didn't even look up when she spoke, the more he thought he was invisible the more people will treat him like he was. Which was perfect for Sam.

Anna ((XD I am his social worker? XDD))

Eleanor hadn't realized how loud the door opening was, of course. She shut it behind her, having trained herself to do this since she never knew if doors would slam, and apparently, slamming doors were extremely loud. She glanced around quickly and hurried to an empty seat close to the edge of the room as well. Now that she was here, she was almost regretting it. She had no way of hearing what this adult was telling her to do. She pulled a notebook out of her backpack after swinging the load to the floor, and pulled out a pen. She flipped to the first page--she had labeled this her "Friend Group" book--and sighed softly. She watched the other people's lips, hoping one of them would start speaking so she could at least try to read their lips.

Anna ((And thanks!))

Maya was told about Eleanor, so she got up and moved her chair next to Eleanor. Maya waved to get eye contact and wrote Introduce yourself in her own notebook that she brought just to communicate with Eleanor. You can write it and I will read it out for you, and tell you everyone else's name. she wrote out and showed it to Eleanor once she was done.

message 16: by Anna (new)

Anna ((Haha))

Eleanor tilted her head to read what Maya had written in her own notebook and nodded, writing Thank you at the top of her own page. She didn't know what anyone wanted to know about her. But she could start with the basics.

My name is Eleanor Emry, but you can call me Ellie. I'm also 18 years old. If anyone was wondering I was deaf from birth. I have a dog at home named Max--he's a big German Shepherd--and I really like reading and writing. I guess it's a good thing to like writing when this is often how I communicate.
I like animals, too.

Ellie shrugged, drawing a box around her introduction, and looked at Maya. She tapped the box and sighed. I don't know if I should add anything else, she wrote below the box.

message 17: by (new)

♡ | 13 comments Maya read Ellie's note before she read what was in the box and smiled. It is perfect she wrote. Everyone was staring at Maya and Eleanor wondering what they were doing. But soon Maya explained everything to them by reading Ellie's note and the deaf part made Sam look up. He raised an eyebrow at the girl, you couldn't tell by looking at her. She looked normal but what was normal, alot of kids would say Samuel was odd looking but he never understood what that meant. Maya glanced over at Sam, tried to act like he wasn't looking but she caught. "Come here." she said, Sam sighed he didn't even have to look up to know that she was speaking to him. Maya was also told about Sam, so was also wondered about his anger issues. Sam sat next to Maya, she told him to introduce himself and he sighed annoyance before he started writing.
I am Samuel and I draw was all he wrote down before he give the piece of paper to Maya.

message 18: by Anna (new)

Anna Thank you, Ellie wrote down after Maya introduced her to the class. When the other kid who'd been sitting in the corner of the room came over towards her and sat down, she glanced over at Samuel just as he passed his note to Maya. Was he deaf, too? Or mute? She tried to smile at him, hoping that maybe someone in this room wouldn't mind being a friend with a deaf girl who didn't listen to music and communicated through gestures and writing.
