Kyle De | 4 comments I contacted goodreads about this and was told to post this here. I don't think it's accurate to attribute this quote to A.W. Streane:

It looks like the last part of that quote is from the Talmud and the second part is from Micah 6:8. If A.W. Streane did put the whole quote together can folks at least attribute it to a book or something?

You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it is from Pirkei Avos, not the Talmud. But definitely predates any modern author. Although this is a paraphrase of the more common translations.

The middle bit appears to be a paraphrase of Micah, but I can't find it phrased quite that way in any translation. (I looked at about a dozen on Bible Gateway, and none used a similar phrasing.)

And the very first bit appears to be original.

Since the user who added it was last active on Goodreads in 2008, I think tracking it down to a book is unlikely.

Kyle De | 4 comments Can you take it down then? Goodreads is one of the first sources that comes up attributing this quote to A.W. Streane and I'm not seeing anything suggesting that attribution is accurate.

Given the author's published works, the quote is quite believably his.

Kyle De | 4 comments Is belief the standard here? I can't find the quote in any of his books can you? There's also the problem of attributing language he didn't necessarily come up with to him.

Kyle De | 4 comments No response? Sad to me this is what passes for proper attribution on goodreads.
