The originality in this series is both stellar and uplifting. The freshness of the writing I would compare musically to Shania Twain's country lyrics and the Christmas music of The TranSiberian Orchestra, literature wise to "One day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and dancewise to the resurgence of swing dance.
