ABANDONED. Book set in woods, man won’t live in society because he believes he has killer gene inherited from father

Hi, I’m looking for a book that I have read in the past but just can’t remember the title or author. The book is about a women who gets injured in the words and is rescued by a man who lives in the woods. The man keeps himself in the woods because he believes he has inherited his father’s “killer gene”. However cut a long story short, it turns out he was switched at birth. Anyone have any idea what books this is or am I imagining reading such a book haha!!
