I read this book in the early 90's, but it may have been older. I believe it had a grey cover. The book takes place in Texas. Some men that run a dog fighting ring go to Mexico and smuggle back these dog like creatures. The dogs escape and terrorize the town. The woman in the story was a bus driver. At the end we find out that the dogs are possessed by Aztec/Indian spirits.
