SOLVED. Sci Fi book about a hacking banker in London, ends up with China invading. [s]

I read this book a few years ago, can’t remember the name of it which brings me here.

I remember it was about a man who worked for a bank based on London, in some sort of internet defence, where he physically went into the network. Something went wrong and he ended up fleeing to a village in the south west of england. The only other thing I remember is that China had caused whatever made him run away, and invaded the whole country, they tracked him and his family down by the end of the book, and then ended on a cliffhanger.

It was the start of a series and I’d like to read more of them, but I don’t know where to get started.

"Physically went into the network" - meaning he shrank and went into a computer? Is that the sci-fi aspect?

I think it was a sort of Matrix-style connect and control an avatar in the network, but I can’t quite remember.
