It's been about twenty years give or take a few, since I read this book so the details I remember are very vague and I apologise in advance for that. I know it wasn't a new book as I got it from the school library and the cover was dark. It is based in an English or American coastal town and the main character was a young girl (early teens?). I'm pretty sure it was published in England or America and was based within more modern times. It was a horror/thriller I think, but aimed at a younger audience?
