Aegemon is jumping time and inciting (not always causing the murders). Each time he changes the past a new reality is created. He's there to witness the splitting of realities where Alex's reality is changed.
As far as "the real Alex" they all are. But I go into more detail in Book Five regarding "The Prime"--at least that's what it's called right now.
I don't know that there is a reference in Book Two about the North Country. But that's when I decided. There may be a reference to Myrdd being from the North Country.

April, thanks so much! I love Orion and I kept trying to make him go away and he just kept popping back up. Glad he stuck around! I kept trying to decide who he was--but he didn't give me much room for decision. As most of the oracles and characters, he told me who he was.

BTW, do you remember last year when I was asking for Gaelic names for a male character? Someone said Orion and of course, that opened a lot of doors.
Second, I need to make sure I got this right. The "real" Alex was there up till the point where he went out to buy the giraffe. Then Aegmon replaced him with a different Alex? And the Alex that went crazy and died was not the "real"Alex. And he comes back later and Val doesn't believe that it's really him but it's the Alex she met from the past.
