am looking for the series that begins with a young girl who suddenly is reaching for an apple, then it shrives in her hand and she looks and it suddenly is turned red up to her forarm. she realizes she got her period, runs home. ends up being a sign she is from a forbidden magic and is being hunted down, men come to the house to take her and they kill the parents with some sort of maggots in the ground...she escapes with her brother... one armed man is her guardian...that's all I got
