Time to nominate some books for our next Group read(s) for the beginning months of 2015. Our December book runs into the beginning of January, so I think we will take the rest of January off for everyone to get caught up after the holidays, then start with a new book in February.

If you nominate a book, be willing to lead the discussion of the book if your book is selected.

So what would you like to nominate for our next Group read? These can be new releases, older releases, popular books, thought provoking books, etc.

We will be running a poll in a few weeks to select our reads from the books nominated.

We Are Not Ourselves
by Matthew Thomas

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I'll nominate Little, Big by John Crowley.

Reviewers either seem to think it's the best book ever or they hate it!

I'm going to throw in All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

It is a pretty new release, but I keep seeing good reviews for it.

I enjoyed this, the back and forth between the two main characters' stories (even though they don't know each other).

EDITED TO SWITCH ORDER OF READS:

Looks like we are going to have some "Light" reading for the new year!

Our next two group reads are:

Feb: The Light Between Oceans, discussion leader, Irene.

March: All the Light We Cannot See, discussion leader, Sheila (me)

Looking forward to reading and discussing both of these! Individual threads will be posted for each book when the time arrives.

For the February read, I will set up a discussion schedule so we can read and discuss the book throughout the month of February. If you are interested in joining on this one, you can start looking for a copy now. :-)

message 15: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I might join in with March's group read. February's book has 40 people on the wait list at the library!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I wanted to read both of these.

Got it. I'll prepare :)

message 18: by Irene (new)

Irene | 4584 comments I have already read both of these. They were both terrific. Don't know if I trust myself to post without risking spoilers since I can't remember what I had for breakfast, let alone what happened at what point in a novel.

message 19: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca I am curious to see what all the craze its about The Light We Cannot See. I am still 20th in line for it. In the meantime I might read The Light Between Oceans first.

Since it appears that several ladies have long waiting lists for All The Light We Cannot See, would we prefer to flip-flop these, and do The Light Between Oceans first in February, and do All The Light We Cannot See in March, to give time for people to get to the top of their library lists? I am happy to do this if it would help! :-)

message 21: by Daniale (new)

Daniale Lynch | 148 comments The waiting list for All the Light We Cannot See at my local library is phenomenal. I would love to flip the two books, personally--The Light Between Oceans just came in, and I'd love to read it while I wait for the other!

I just emailed Irene to see if she minds switching the order of these.

It sounds like The Light Between Oceans is much more readily available, so I think (if Irene doesn't mind) that we should read it first, to give everyone that extra month to be on the library waiting lists for All The Light We Cannot See.

message 23: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 2175 comments I just took out a copy of TLBO. Even if ATLWCS comes in, I may not be able to read it fast enough for the lending period- which is shorter on new books.

Okay, Irene has agreed, so we are going to switch the read order of these.

February: The Light Between Oceans

March: All The Light We Cannot See

This will give those with long library wait lists a possible chance to obtain and read ATLWCS.

Still looking forward to two great discussions! :-)
