Book Synopsis:
Mina Grime is unlucky, unpopular and uncoordinated; that is until she saves her crush's life on a field trip, changing her High School status from loser to hero overnight.

But with her new found fame brings misfortune in the form of an old family curse come to light. For Mina is a descendant from the Brothers Grimm and has inherited all of their unfinished fairy tale business which includes trying to outwit a powerful Story from making her its' next fairy-tale victim.

To break the fairy tale curse on her family and make these deadly occurrences stop, Mina must finish the tales until the very Grimm end.

So I just finished the first two chapters and I'm intrigued. There is definitely something strange going on at the bakery (view spoiler)[I wonder if death was what Claire was planning for Brody or if Mina's bad luck/good luck interrupted a different plan? I also wonder if Brimwell is the original Brimwell. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished chapter 5 and we are getting the explanation. (view spoiler)[Mina is a Grimm descendent and they are all cursed to live through the "tales" but most end up dying along the way. The curse will be broken when someone survives them all. There are over 200. I still wonder if Charlie will be pulled in, there are lots of fairy tales with young boys. (hide spoiler)]

Wow, that is really giving her an impossible task. And her poor mother, what a terrible secret to know.

Ok, now through chapter 10. I found it odd that Mina was so willing to take up the family mantle (view spoiler)[She should be scared. Her father only survived 10 stories and she thinks she can do them all?

I'm not sure if Brody likes her for her or is part of one of the stories. I was impressed with Nan's belief and willingness to help. I hope she isn't a bad guy, because I loved her scene with Charlie.

About 1/2 way through Chapter 3 at this point....still not quite sure what's going on, so I'll avoid the spoilers above for now because I'm not sure what (view spoiler)[Mina is, or why does she have odd things happen to her? That would be horrible to have to pack up and move every so often like her moms does when something happens, so I'm curious to see what this means. (hide spoiler)]

I have finished up to chapter 3.

(view spoiler)[This book definitely has my attention. Not sure how much I like the characters yet (it feels very Twilight to me...) but the story is interesting. The bakery definitely has something freaky going on. I really like the last line of chapter 3 about not every story having a happy ending. Whatever is going on with Mina is for sure strange, I am excited to find out what is going on! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 5

I've finished up to Chapter 12--kindle says 55%--and I have to say I find it a bit of a mess so far.

(view spoiler)[ There are just too many pieces that don't fit together. Brody--who could just be the love interest or part of the Story, but right now Mina isn't even talking to for some random 15 year old mind reason. Her mother--who is crazy to even let her try this "breaking the curse". The trusty sidekick Nan--who is probably my favorite character actually. Charlie with his "not speaking" thing. Mina--who I'm sorry should not be even attempting to tackle something that has killed every adult male in her family. And now another cute boy has appeared--with somewhat questionable motives. It's just a lot and I don't feel like any of it is being explained well at all. Maybe by the end.... (hide spoiler)]

And if Mina didn't take on the curse it wouldn't be very exciting! It isn't smart though, she is doing what most teens do and rushing in without thinking. (hide spoiler)]

Kelsi, I agree its a great idea for a story. I think I'm still just struggling with her age-15 seems young to me even for YA--but maybe I'm just old ;). I also think that it would have been nice if she'd had some prep as she grew up. (view spoiler)[ Even if it was something as simple as her mother reading her all the Grimm stories as a child. (view spoiler)[I'm not getting what's up with Brody....is he a part in all this? he just saved her from the wolfman/badguy outside the library. Seems like he may have a bigger roll in all of this than we know just yet.

And Mina did definitely take it all in just fine. It would seem she'd have tons of questions and skepticism and everything else when her mom told her, but she was just like "oh okay...let's do this". Seems like maybe it was too glossed over.

And what's with Nan's cryptic text at the end of chapter 6? Upset...give time....Does she know something? Is there more to her than we know just yet???

It's a very quick read, but leaves me frustrated with each chapter when I have stop reading!

@Stacey: (view spoiler)[That would have been a great flashback. I think her mom was trying to hide everything from her to protect her though. I agree that she should have had more questions rather than just accepting everything and diving right in.

I'm done! I know there was a few issues with things lining up in this story but I still really enjoyed it. It was a good fun read.

(view spoiler)[I like that the ending wasn't exactly a happy ending, after all the cryptic foreshadowing leading up to it. I hope that Brody remembers Mina in the later books. I liked him in the end. I am curious about what is going to happen with Jared in the next one too! (hide spoiler)]

I've read through chapter 14

(view spoiler)[Ok, now we have a new guy, Jared who knows what is actually going on. He will probably end up being the love interest. Brody had to be motivated by the story. What teenage boy will talk to a parent like he did?

Mina is behaving strangely. Her ignoring Jared when he could help her is not the brightest move. And Brody she seems to just bother with when he can help her but doesn't seem interested in really learning about him. (hide spoiler)]

I'm finished. I think the author did manage to pull some things together by the end of the book. I still feel like a lot of things were kind of thrown into the story, just to see how it would work and I don't feel like the author has a good overall plan for the story. But that may just be me.

Finally got around to this book. Will put spoilers for the initial chapters.
Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[ I’m not sure if I like Nan very much. She doesn’t seem like a real friend to Mina. What kind of friend would intentionally embarrass her friend by posting an unflattering picture of her for the entire world to see?

Claire seems pretty mysterious and it is weird how suddenly Brody took a liking to her. Something strange seems to be happening in the bakery. I wonder what that is.. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[Brody doesn’t remember breaking up with Savannah? Oh something is definitely up!

Still don’t find Nan very endearing even after finding that she sacrificed her phone in order to help Mina. Hope she can redeem herself through the course of the story. (hide spoiler)]

Can’t wait to see the spoilers you’ve all put. It's a 2 star for me at the moment. Nothing that eventful has happened yet.

I just finished. I thought it was good, but not great.

(view spoiler)[I was surprised that I ended up liking Brody and I too hope he ends up remembering eventually. I wonder if Jared will remember everything or if he will be a blank slate?

I was very surprised when everyone's memory was wiped. That would be an awful way to live never knowing if what you do or say with people will be remembered.

I'm still not super fond of Mina. I hope she gets over her pride and prejudices soon. I also wonder how many books are planned for this series. There are over 200 stories, Mina solved 3 in the first book at that rate there will be a ton of books. (hide spoiler)]

I have a feeling the next books will be quicker because there doesn't need to be so much buildup. There will probably be a fair number of books though.

I don't know if I will be able to get to the next one until sometime in March. Would that be ok? Maybe March 10?

This is a fast read but since I'm alternating with other books at the same time, it's taking me some time.

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[ What is happening in this book? A dog, a cat, a rooster and a donkey are all out to get Mina?

I expected the news interview to go like it did. Didn't think Mina would shift the spotlight on to Nan but I'm sure Nan was really happy. Her number of followers TRIPLED! Now that's quite an achievement!

I'm still trying to imagine the dog, cat and rooster chase. With the cameo from a donkey. Ha!

P.S- An interesting reference to a certain "sparkly" vampire in this chapter. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? ;) (hide spoiler)]
