He did it because he didn't want it known a lowly nurse diagnosed Cole's condition when he couldn't. He was jealous. Yes, she did go behind his back because he refused to listen. Unfortunately, some doctors are like that.

He did it because she made him look bad. I'm glad she was able to find another doctor to listen to her and take another look at Cole's situation.

He definitely was an egomaniac. A nurse making a correct diagnosis! He couldn't risk it getting out. Instead of being thrilled that the patient survived, he took it out on her.
