Jill | 725 comments I finished The Girl from the Metropol Hotel: Growing Up in Communist Russia by Ludmilla Petrushevskaya today. The only category it fits is the word “legs” is in the text.

Jillian | 2875 comments I finished Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon and marked it for ants.

Also, something is wrong with Chrissy's spot on the page count so the totals are not showing. Hopefully, Emily or someone else skilled with spreadsheets can fix it (I think we should have reached the 5,000 page wildcard).

Now, on to finish my audio book!

Does your book fit somewhere on insects instead of puppy?

message 104: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I just finished World Without End by Ken Follett. Not sure whether it fits anything, but it was 45.5 hours long!

It’s because I have a placeholder in for my final page count of the night. I’ll fix it before I go to bed.

message 106: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I finished and updated the spreadsheet with Where the Light Enters bySara Donati and changed my audio hours over to page numbers.

Good morning and great work last night, team! Already 4 books knocked off for Insects!

I'm having a hard time deciding what to pick up next. I was going to read Such a Fun Age, but it doesn't fit any of the prompts (that I know of). I also wanted to read The 57 Bus: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives, which should be a quick read. Neither of those are for the ATY challenge, though, so I'm just not sureeee.

message 108: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments Good morning, team!

I'm still plugging away at Game of Thrones, but not very fast!! I hope to finish it this week. I have also started Anne of Green Gables. Should be able to finish it- it is a much quicker read!

message 109: by Jillian (last edited Feb 26, 2020 07:33AM) (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I have just started the audiobook Starsight by Brandon Sanderson which will work for "puppy" and the kindle book The Drawing of the Three by Stephen King. I think, it is unlikely that I will finish either before Saturday so I have not looked up any words yet to see if they fit insects.

message 110: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Finished Seven Brief Lessons in Physics by Carlo Rovelli which checks of creepy crawling with the author's name. Halfway through Insects!

message 111: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments Good morning!

I’m in the early stages of several books but feeling kind of restless and book-antsy, so I don’t know what I’m reading next, BUT, I’m doing a reading sprint from 11-12 (PST) with this other, witch-themed, readathon, so i might make enough progress into one of my stack of shorter witchy books (Which Witch, The Okay Witch, Witch Wars... mostly middle-grade length) to get one of them finished today and use for a prompt. The author of Which Witch’s initials are EI, so that fits a few, at least!

message 112: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1565 comments I don't think I am going to continue to read the book I started last night, I keep putting it down to do other things never a good sign. Hopefully my new book keeps my interest.

Should I add the 20 something pages I read yesterday to the spreadsheet even if I am not going to continue with it?

In seems to me they should count. They are pages read.

message 114: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Yes, please count them! They are pages read, even if you DNF the book.

I sat down and started Such a Fun Age.... then looked up 2 hours and 175 pages later for a breath. Such a captivating book! Definitely going to finish it tomorrow, but it doesn't fit anything in insects so I may hold off the last few pages until we make it to puppy.

message 115: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments It looks like Roxana has three possible books for insects, Eddie one book and Lois one book but no one else has books that work. I'm not sure where they are at but maybe once we get one more spot filled in we use 3 of the wildcards and move on to puppy.

message 116: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Jillian, I agree. I was thinking that if we didn't have Insects filled by tomorrow afternoon, we would just use Wild Cards to fill in the rest. I'm reading two books right now but neither work for Insects.

message 117: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments I’m going to finish a book in the next couple of hours that counts for Springtime or Many Species! :)

message 118: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments I have less 100 pages to giving Winesburg, Ohio. I expect to finish by tomorrow morning...Perhaps tonight.

message 119: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (last edited Feb 26, 2020 06:49PM) (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Edie, you can put that towards grasshoppers, and Roxana can go with many species.

If anyone has a book that takes place in the springtime, that would count as it being Acted Out.

I'll check in after lunch (I'm central time zone) and if we still have some left open, I'll fill them with Wild Cards. We moved through this level so quickly!

message 120: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments Finished Which Witch and put it for many species! :) I'm not super feeling the other two books I already have going right now (and I'm not very far into either, anyway), so I'm going to try to pick something new to start tonight that fits some puppy prompts...

message 121: by Alaina (new)

Alaina Rodriguez I put The Gunslinger on pause as right now it looks like it won't fit for anymore of the remaining prompts. So I picked up the audiobook for The Art of Racing in the Rain which should definitely fit for one of the Puppy Level prompts once I'm finished.

message 122: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (last edited Feb 27, 2020 03:48AM) (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Good morning, team!

We only have one prompt left in dinosaurs, so I'm going to go ahead and throw a wild card on it so we can move on to Puppy!

We've also met all of our wild cards, but I would love for everyone to keep tracking their pages and audio so that we can see how much progress we've made as a team.

Happy reading today!

message 123: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments Just checking in, I listened to the audiobook of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe this morning and put it in for “lick your face” (author initials). :) And if anyone needs an audio recommendation, and feels inclined to read some Narnia, Michael York reads this one beautifully! The whole series is done by various famous actors, like Kenneth Branagh and Lynn Redgrave, it’s lovely.

message 124: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Roxana, I moved it from "lick your face" to "let's play fetch". The book I'm going to finish tonight only works for "lick your face" so I just moved it around a bit! Great work!!

message 125: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Finished Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson. I used it for "sit and stay" which had the least number of possible books to fill it.

message 126: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Hey, Goodreads has been wonky for me all day. Do y'all see the day's challenge (Cover Uncover) in the Read-A-Thon folder? I had a lot of trouble posting it, and no one has completed the game so I just wanted to make sure it was available to everyone.

message 127: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments Emily, no problem! And yes, I can see the Cover Uncover thread in the forum.

message 128: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments Emily, I saw the cover game this morning on my computer but on the app only the first cover shows up. Lately, the app has gotten worse at only showing only a little to nothing in a post.

message 129: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments The book I reading has a paragraph about Charlie Brown and Lucy kicking the football but no mention of Snoopy.

message 130: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Ugh, yes the app is AWFUL. I only get on Goodreads on my laptop because I don't have the patience for the app.

Jillian, what a bummer. Snoopy was obviously the most important character in the Charlie Brown series.

message 131: by Perri (new)

Perri | 886 comments Sheesh, I FINALLY finished The Concrete Blonde. I need to go back to the rules to see if this can help in any way besides pages read

Samantha | 1565 comments Jillian wrote: "Samantha wrote: "I finished Blood of a Promise and added it to the spread sheet. Have not had much time to read today but hope to get some in before I go to bed, just need to decide..."

Sorry I didn't respond to this, I must have missed it when reading through yesterday. It looks like insect was finished up so hopefully I didn't screw anything too badly.

message 133: by Alaina (new)

Alaina Rodriguez I was able to listen to the rest of the audiobook for The Art of Racing in the Rain at work today. I used it for "labrador" since there's a yellow lab on the cover.

message 134: by Veronica (last edited Feb 27, 2020 11:39PM) (new)

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments I just finished Where the Crawdads Sing and it was amazing! I'll check and see what category it can fill.

Sara- you are right, I have a feeling that I will be thinking about this book for a looong time to come.

Edit: I placed it for "dog breed" due to the author's name.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Good morning, team!

I just finished Such a Fun Age, and when I went to add it to the spreadsheet, it looks like we only have one left for Puppy! We can use a wild card if y'all are eager to move on to the final level (which, spoiler, has 15 prompts instead of 10), or we can hold off since it is only Thursday. Just let me know what y'all think.

message 136: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Wait... today is Friday. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

message 137: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments I say we should use a wild card.

message 138: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I vote also to use a wild card.

message 139: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Wild Card it is!

On to the final *magical* round!

message 140: by Jillian (last edited Feb 28, 2020 07:18AM) (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I picked up The Lost Plot (The Invisible Library, #4) by Genevieve Cogman The Lost Plot by Genevieve Cogman from the library last weekend and am going to start it today. The author's name works for 2 tasks and I'm thinking the book might work for word/phrases or acted out.

I'm going to keep listening to Starsight but I will have to search to see if any words work. It probably won't count but that is okay. I'm enjoying the book.

message 141: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments I just finished a cute little (but over 100 pages... barely, lol) book, Die Kleine Hexe, that I put in for “pot of gold”, and I’m about to finish The Witch of Blackbird Pond, which can fit many of the prompts (author initials ES are convenient ones), so though I’ll just stick it in anywhere when I finish it, feel free to move it around as needed!

message 142: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1565 comments Good morning and Happy Friday! Nice job everyone getting us to the Magical Round :)

I should finish Little Women today and perhaps My Not So Perfect Life.

message 143: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments Neither of the books I want to start next have come in from my library hold yet! I'll read Heart Berries tomorrow (for leap day!) but I'm not sure whether I'll have anything available tonight. Maybe I should stop by the library on my way home to pick up something from the "lucky day" shelf!

message 144: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I thought about going to the library today as well, Chrissy, but ended up doing some yard work instead. Tomorrow morning, though, I'm going to make a much needed trip to drop off some overdue books and pick up some books for March!

message 145: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments Today I finished After the Flood which has “sea creatures” in the text.

message 146: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments It was closed by the time I left work! But, my hold for The Heartbeat of Wounded Knee: Native America from 1890 to the Present did come in today, so I can at least get started on it. I think it is long and probably dense, so I won't be finishing for the readathon, though.

message 147: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments I picked up a couple of holds from the library today myself, but to be honest I have way too many books out right now anyway, so maybe I shouldn’t have, haha. I do have a couple of shortish ones out right now that I think I can finish by tomorrow night, though, so we’ll see... fingers crossed! :)

message 148: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Good morning, team!

We have 7 wild cards left, so we really only need to finish 4 more books in order to complete the level. I'm going to try to read another book by the end of the day tomorrow, but I have lots of work to do since I procrastinated all week, so no promises haha.

message 149: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments I'm planning to finish Game of Thrones today. Only a hundred pages left, but it goes kind of slow.

message 150: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments I have about 100 pages to go in The Long Way Home. We have a beautiful sunny day which will compete for reading time, but I certainly should be able to finish this by tomorrow... if not today.
