Jillian | 2875 comments I'm thinking once a book has been used for a prompt, we need to remove it from the other themes pages so we have a better idea of how many books we really have for those options. I'm thinking then we need to pick our next theme since we are getting close to finishing dinosaurs.

I'm plugging along on my non-fiction book but non-fiction reads slow....

Jillian, I was going to just move all of the books over to whichever topic we choose next once we finish with Dinosaurs. I'll go through and delete completed books now, though!

We had a beautiful, sunny but chilly day. Not really gardening weather here, but I did get tomatoes seeds planted so they can start growing indoors.

Edie | 1143 comments Did we decide what category we were going to do next? With only 3 phrases to go and it sounds like several people are close to finishing off at least one of the phrases, should be consider using a couple of our wildcards to get us to the next category?

With a total of 10 possible Wild Cards, I'd say we limit ourselves to doing 2 per round? (Assuming we can get to the total amount of Wild Cards and also the surprise fifth round of the challenge).

Maybe whatever prompt comes in as complete next, we can use the Wild Cards for the last two of Dinosaur?

I say we go for Big Cat next.. we already have books to cover each of the prompts.

message 56: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 1137 comments I added my finished book to check off “triceratops” this morning. If Big Cat is next, I’ll add my current book over there.

message 57: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments Big Ca sounds good for our next pick. I still have around a 100 pages left (it will still take me a few hours) of my book that works for Jurassic Park but the book also works really well for Big Cat so I will check back in before finishing the last chapter to see if I should finish it so we can move on or wait and use it for Big Cat.

message 58: by Alaina (new)

Alaina Rodriguez Good morning team!

I have a few obligations today but I still think I'll be able to finish my current book. I'll of course update the spreadsheet depending on where we are when I check in again.

message 59: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments Just finished my audiobook for t-rex (and added it to the spreadsheet). I’ve got about half of RWRB left, which will fit The Lion King, if we do Big Cat next.

message 60: by Rose (new)

Rose | 52 comments I'll have Unsung Heroine finished by the end of today, which fits Jurassic Park (author name).

Also, hi, happy to be aboard Team Cocoa Pebbles!

message 61: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1565 comments Thanks for the help Kathy Jo and Emily! I was hesitant to update that part of the spreadsheet but will fill it in going forward.

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Do we want to use our Wild Cards on the two remaining prompts, or are there enough people close to finishing Jurassic Park and ancient predators that we can hold off and save our Wild Cards for later?

message 63: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I have 57 pages left for Jurassic Park. Though, I can only read about 10 pages before I need a short break.

I think, we should hold off on using the wildcards unless someone is about to finish a book that does not work for dinosaurs but does work for big cats.

message 64: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments I'm not close on my book, but I agree let's wait a bit and see if there are folks that can close one of those out.

message 65: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Question: "Roared" and "roaring" are in the text of Unsheltered. As these are variants of "roar", could this count as in the text?

message 66: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Ok sounds good! I'll check back in later this evening and see where we stand. For now, if you aren't close to finishing a book for Jurassic Park or ancient predators, you can start working on Big Cat words!

message 67: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
No, if you're looking for in text, it has to be exact.

message 68: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments I am about to finish Sadie which could be used for either of our last two Dinosaur prompts. Anyone care which one I use?

Go with "ancient predators"! There seem to be a few close ones to finish Jurassic Park.

Wasn't Sadie great??

Ok, I just updated the spreadsheet! Finished! Sadie was amazing!!! I'm so glad I did the Audio version it was amazing too!!

message 72: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I finished and updated the spreadsheet though the row still needs to be turned gray. We are now on to Big Cats!

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Hooray! We are up to Big Cat, and we still have 4 wild cards to use as needed!

Don't forget to put in your page counts and audio counts so we can keep track of how many Wild Cards we have to use.

EDIT: We actually just earned our 3rd Audio Wild Card! So we have 5 at our disposal.

message 74: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I updated the spreadsheet with my audio hours for today. Monday's tend to be really long days so I don't think I will finish my next book until Tuesday.

Edie I started toms too! Do you have a greenhouse or sunny windowsill?

message 76: by Rose (new)

Rose | 52 comments Finished Unsung Heroine and counted it for Shere Khan!

message 77: by Alaina (last edited Feb 23, 2020 10:52PM) (new)

Alaina Rodriguez Just finished The Other People and used it for "rescue." On page 6: "He was the one who had soothed their daughter and applied Savlon to her chin when their temperamental rescue cat (the one Jenny had adopted) had scratched her."

I'll be moving on to The Gunslinger: The Dark Tower 1 tomorrow.

message 78: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments Just finished Red, White and Royal Blue, which i guess is wrapping up my reading for the day. I marked it for The Lion King prompt, based on the cover.

Tomorrow I’ll mostly be reading Penny For Your Secrets or All the Birds in the Sky; I’m nearly halfway through Penny already, so there’s a chance I might finish that by bedtime. Good night!

Good morning, team!

I love waking up and see so many prompts already checked off! It feels strange that I haven't finished a book for the Read-A-Thon yet, but I'm trying to take my time with Homegoing, and it's hard to read more than a chapter at a time. I'm breaking that up with All the Ways We Said Goodbye, which is an awesome historical fiction novel that has me captivated, but it's also 400+ pages. Hopefully I'll finish both of them by Tuesday so I can meet my goal of 4 books read this week.

Happy Monday and happy reading!

message 80: by Lois (new)

Lois Anderson | 56 comments Good Morning!

I just updated the spreadsheet with my finish of The Naughty Girls Book Club. I put it in for Whisker, but it does meet a couple of other categories, so feel free to move it if necessary. I also deleted it from the other tabs.

Also, my pages put us over the 3000 pages so now we have another wild card too! Yay!

Starting a new book and audio book today, so it might be awhile before I have more books finished.

message 81: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1143 comments Finished up Unsheltered which gives us "pride" ... appearing multiple times in the text. Also logged the 51 pages to finish it. Halfway through "Big Cats"!

message 82: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1565 comments I got started on a new book Blood of a Promise. It is short so should finish quickly.

I also realized that I am only a little half way through my audiobook of little women so probably won't be finishing that for a few more days.

message 83: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I think, I have around 150 pages left in Dragonfly in Amber. I'm hoping to get 50 pages read tonight. I have added the 45 mins. of my audio book that I have listened to so far today and hope to get 1/2 hour more in tonight also.

I was just curious what happened to the books that have been completed for Big Cat.? Just in case, we need to move stuff around. I'm not seeing all the possible options for those books.

message 84: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I moved them to the end of the spreadsheet, rather than putting them at the beginning because it was distracting me lol. I can move them back if it's easier.

I finished Homegoing and put it down for roar, which is the only prompt it fit. Only got 111 pages read today, but it was a busy day and Homegoing was a tough read... I could only read a chapter at time before taking a break. Glad I read it though!

message 85: by Jillian (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments The end is fine. I think that makes more sense to put them there.

I read Homegoing last year and while it is a great book. I agree that it is one to read a little bit at a time.

message 86: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments I got 328 pages read today, including finishing a cute middle grade book that doesn’t count for any of the prompts we have left on Big Cat, oh well! 😂 I’ve got about 150 pages left in Penny For Your Secrets, so I do think I’ll be able to finish that tomorrow, and it works for two of the big cat prompts we have left, if they don’t get filled by other folks first. so, on that note... good night, y’all!

message 87: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments Roxana- does the book you finished work for any of the completed big cat prompts? Maybe we can move one so we can count yours.

Hopefully I get more reading done today than yesterday!

message 88: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments Kathy, not really, the only thing it really counts for is “rescue”, but that seems to be the only prompt that works for the book that is already listed for that. Oh well! :)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Good morning team!

We still have 4 prompts left for Big Cats, but hopefully we can get at least two knocked out today. I'm thinking that once we get down to two left, we should use Wild Cards and move on to the next set of words (maybe insects?). We have a total of 10 wild cards (I have no doubt we will hit the pages required to get all 10), so we can use two or three on each of the remaining levels without difficulty.

Also, now that we have reached the audio wild cards, we can start converting audio into pages read to meet the pages wild cards.

message 90: by Jillian (last edited Feb 25, 2020 12:31PM) (new)

Jillian | 2875 comments I still have around 100 pages left of my books (that will work for an open task in Big Cats) but it will be a few hours until I can read anymore on it. I then can finish my audio book (2hours left) that works for either insects or puppy.

message 91: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
I *should* finish my book today, and it works for "whisker". I still have about 120 pages to go, but I think I can manage that in the next few hours.

message 92: by Roxana (new)

Roxana (luminate) | 767 comments I just finished Penny For Your Secrets, and logged it for “tigers and panthers.” Zooming along! (Though unfortunately the book itself wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be.)

message 93: by Rose (new)

Rose | 52 comments Just finished Lumberjanes: The Shape of Friendship, which counted for Kittens (appears in the text).

message 94: by Emily, Conterminous Mod (new)

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11184 comments Mod
Yay and yay and yay!

I've just finished All the Ways We Said Goodbye, which counts for "whiskers" (author name), so we only have one left for Big Cat.

Do we want to throw a wild card on it? Move on to Insects next?

Is there a formula to convert Audiohours to page numbers. I can't find a hard copy or digital version to get my hands on to figure it out?

Let me know!

message 99: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1565 comments I finished Blood of a Promise and added it to the spread sheet. Have not had much time to read today but hope to get some in before I go to bed, just need to decide what to read next..

Chrissy | 1137 comments Lois wrote: "Is there a formula to convert Audiohours to page numbers. I can't find a hard copy or digital version to get my hands on to figure it out?"

Depends on the book and narration speed. You’ll need to find the pages/hours ratio by checking the goodreads record for the number of pages in the book.
