Read-A-Thon #1: Team Fruit Loops
I have two books for puppies, so I'm hoping we'll complete big cats soon. I don't think I can wait too long to finish my two books and I don't want to start a new one yet. Reading three books at a time is too much for me 😊
I’m having trouble getting the spreadsheet to work on my phone. If someone could update for me, I finished Things in Jars today, which completes the whisker category in Big Cats. Also, I did 5 hours of audio yesterday and 3 hours of physical reading so far today. Thanks!!
I updated for book for Big Cats and your audio hours. How many physical pages did you read?3 phrases left!
Well done team 😊I've just updated my totals for the day and now I'm off to bed. I'm in a different timezone than you guys, I think.
See you all tomorrow and happy reading!
Hey Team Fruit Loops! Don't forget to update your page count and audio hours... those can lead to Wild Cards that you can use to progress quicker through the levels!
Well Team, what do we want to do? We have "tigers and panthers" and "kittens" left in Big Cats. Patricia, are you close to done with Olive Kitteridge or should we use a wild card?
Someone is reading Illness as Metaphor but there's no name there. I could finish my book by Anna Gavalda and put it for Tigers and panthers but I don't want to step on anyone's toes.
Thoughts, everyone?
I just finished Elevation by Stephen King and marked it down for kittens since author initials. It looks like that leaves us with only one left for this category.
Great, Brittany. I added French Leave to "Tigers and Panthers" so we are done with Big Cats!Go Fruit Loops! We're going on to Puppy Level!
Good night.

Kathy, I was interested that you were reading Anna Gavalda. I have read several of her books but I don't know of anyone else who has.
I did nothing today as I ended up being busy but I did get an hour of audio. Not a problem as I can probably finish a short book tomorrow.

Goodmorning team,Great work yesterday. And first level complete, yay!!!
I'm at work today but plan on finishing my audiobook during breaks. My ebook I'm only 25% in, but it's a quick read. So I'll finish no later than tomorrow if all goes as planned.
Good morning Fruit Loops! I'm pretty much a slow reader compared to you all, not to mention the weekend was crazy, so I'm going to keep reading and when I finish a book I'll see if it fits any prompts.
My page total for Sunday was 64. I have no way of updating the spread sheet, if someone wouldn't mind doing it for me. Thank you!Great job team on finishing the first level!
Hi Fruit loops,I finished my audiobook Find Me Gone this afternoon. I put it down for Fluffy so far.
Patricia, don't worry about how slow or fast you read. We all do our best and hoepfully have fun :-)

Robin, I read Hunting and Gathering by Gavalda a few years ago because I saw the book at the public library. I like her writing so I decided to try French Leave for the Readaton since it's short - 105 pages. A good book also, but didn't know all the French references or the music. I felt like I should google all the references! I'll probably read more of Gavalda. What are your favorites of hers?

Hi Kathy, I will send you an email about Anna Gavalda. I was going to put it here but didn't want to clutter up this thread.

That's great. How many pages per hour of audio do we calculate? Also, we have wild cards to use when we get stuck.
I'm plugging away on my audio, What the Wind Knows and the book The Woman in the Window. They're longer so I'll add to the spreadsheet as possibilities when I'm closer to finishing.
For audio you just put the amount of time, like 1 hour.
I finished my book, The British Museum Is Falling Down. I'll enter it on the spreadsheet.
Since we don't have "dog breed" covered, can people please look at my message #23 and see if you think it would count? The only thing is I have about 6 hours left to listen to so soonest I would finish is tomorrow. If it were in print I would probably finish today, but the audio is delightful.

I sat down to read my first Karen White book today and got sucked in! a (few) hours later and I finished! I put it in the spreadsheet, and found that the dog in the book worked for one of the categories!

I would say that absolutely qualifies as "dog breed", Robin. A dog breed is Corgi and that breed is mentioned in the text, doesn't really matter whether the dog in question was a Corgi or not. :)
Kathy, for calculating pages in relation to audio (since you have already met the audio Wild Cards), you can either take the percentage read and multiply that by the amount of pages the default edition on Goodreads has. For example, Homegoing is 300 pages, so if I listened to 10% of Homegoing today, I would log 30 pages read. You can also just wait until you have finished the book and log all of the pages on one day.

Ok, i'll have to speed up my listening!

I read 121 pages today and added them to the spreadsheet. Looks like that puts as over 2500 pages so we have 1 more wildcard.

I don't know how we're going to do it with converting hours to pages. There's been added a lot of hours so we're now at 52. Either we say we go with an average like 1 hour is 25 or 30 pages or we let it be up to each of us to change them over, but I'm not sure if everybody has seen, that we can do this?
I think 1 hr = 25 pages is quite reasonable, but I suppose we could check with Emily and see if that would be permitted. I tried to find the number of pages and calculate my hour yesterday and finally threw up my hands. Not willing to spend that kind of time and energy on conversion instead of reading.
Emily commented a few messages above about how to convert audio hours to pages. So I went with her suggestion.
You can decide as a team how you would like to handle the page conversions for people who are logging audio without converting it, but I did post above for anyone interested in converting their own numbers.
I couldn't find a print version of the "book" I listened to. It was actually two novellas and there may never have been a print version. I suggest converting mine with the 25 page rule if necessary.
Finished The Hunting Party! That just leaves us dog breed, tennis ball, and snoopy for the puppy round. The next book I have up for aty won't fit for any of those so I might listen to a bit more of The Haunting of Hill House while I wait for it to be worthwhile for me to start on my graphic novels.
The book I'm reading doesn't fit any of the last words either, so I'll try not finishing before the last ones has been checked off.Should we use a wildcard or two?
I'm off to bed so I'll check in tomorrow and see how things are
"I poked my fingers through the wire cage at the side of the house, where the sheepdogs licked me with grainy tongues."This would work for dog breed, I assume, but I don't think I will be able to finish the book until tomorrow.
Took a look at the spreadsheet and it looks to me like we have a book entered for every category except "Snoopy". We could use the books that are there, use a wildcard on Snoopy and then move on. Joi or Emily????
I may not finish my audiobook with "dog breed" today so if someone else has one, you can replace me. I'm pretty sure I can finish by tomorrow. I put on the form that I am a fast reader, which I am in print, but audio is a different thing. You can speed up the narration, but I think that undermines the enjoyment.

I have something I'm listening to that can work for snoopy if we want to wait for it. If not I'm cool with using a wild card there. It looks like dog breed and tennis ball aren't quite finished on the spreadsheet.
Ok, so I went ahead and read my graphic novel bc I have the patience of a toddler. Emma G. Wildford by Zidrou. The author's real name is Benoit Drousie. Could I use those initials, bd, for the challenge? Otherwise I can only count its pages.
It looks like you still have "dog breed", "tennis ball", and "Snoopy" left on the Puppy Level.
If you want to use a wild card, just go ahead and type WILD CARD in where the book would be listed, and put that phrase next to the wild card on the first tab to indicate that you've used it.

Nice! That takes care of dog breed!

I finished Revenge by Yōko Ogawa and am going to mark it down for snoopy. I decided to give it a listen because it was a short (4 hour) audiobook and the initials worked. Listened to it while I was knitting this afternoon. It was actually great. Just creepy enough and all of the individual short stories intertwined.

I like the strikethroughs, Marina. It helps to see what's what. I think it'd be good to keep the columns in case we need to shift books around.
