Denise | 1807 comments Oh, thank you, what a relief! My plan for round 3 just blew up, and I'm trying to fix it. And could I lock in "thriller" MPG for The Corn Maiden and Other Nightmares? Thanks!

Yes to The Corn Maiden too!

Denise | 1807 comments If It Bleeds by Stephen King, which is the MPE for print, originally showed 528 pages. It now says 447 pages, and looking at the librarian changelog for that specific edition, I see that it was changed by a librarian on May 1. But, worldcat shows that ISBN to be 369 pages. I will need to use the page count square to complete my "hand" for this book. Should I just use whichever figure is showing the day I post the book and hope it doesn't get changed again before the post is scored? Or is it possible to lock in a page count on a newly released title?

First, which edition are you reading and what is the page count? Did you make your plan based on that? How will a fluid MPE page count affect your plan?

Denise | 1807 comments I am reading this edition, which I borrowed from Overdrive: If It Bleeds which shows a page count of 448 pages.

I had drawn up my plan using the page count of the print MPE, which at that time, late April, was 528 pages. Then someone changed it to 447 on May 1. I thought the print MPE is what we were supposed to use no matter what edition we read, but maybe I need to refresh myself on the rules.

As for the fluid page count question, I can use either the 400 or 500 range as things stand. My worry was that if the page count got changed to 369 pages as worldcat shows, then I would be in a mess.

Thank you and sorry for the confusion.

No, the rules haven't changed. I asked because the librarian changed 4 editions without stating her source, so I thought I'd get that while you were here, just in case.

I think you should use the page count as displayed today - the 447. I will not make a change based on the Worldcat page count. They are mostly reliable, but GR does include pages that they don't, so it isn't 100% anyway. Please reference this discussion when you make your claim, just in case.

Denise | 1807 comments Thank you for this ruling! I too noticed that the librarian had changed multiple editions without quoting a source. And I didn't want to be the person to change the page count based on the worldcat figure. Usually it doesn't bother me, but since this is a new release, I would rather let the dust settle first. I'll use the 447 figure and make the reference in the post, and thanks again.
