ABANDONED. young reader's picture book from late 80s, early 90s various short stories including one about a girl and a brooch with donkey hair

I am looking for a picture book, I had when I was a kid. I hardly remember it, but I loved it and want to buy it again.

The book was hard cover, and greenish, if I remember it correctly.

As far as I remember, there were various short stories. The only story, I can remember was about a girl, who got saved by a donkey from a barn fire.
I am not sure, but I think the donkey died and she had a brooch filled with his hair.

If someone remembers a book with this or a similar story, I'd appreciate it a lot.

Can you describe the illustrations - e.g., simple/detailed, realistic/cartoony/cute, painted watercolors/bold graphics, bright/dark/muted colors/black & white? Do they remind you of a similar illustrator or picture book author?
