Yes, it is a new feature. At the present time, edits you make to that field do not get posted to either your own librarian edits page nor to the edition's page. However, your name will show in the section "Data sources for this edition" at the bottom of the edition's edit page. I don't know if that will be changed, but I doubt it will be soon, though I have contacted support about it.

I think it can be useful for quick corrections, I just have to get used to see it there, sometimes the title is long and takes more than one line.
