Just some extra pretty napkins, a gold coloured personalised cake topper saying ... "Happy 85th Birthday Mum" ... and a big box of her favourite Macarons. I already have the cards, and have booked the orders for the cake and the flowers ;o>

Serial Sock Trumpet (serialsocktrumpet) | 1998 comments 34 degrees in the polytunnel today, that's with all the doors open :0

Had to admit defeat and retreat to work outside at 2pm.

We had family visit, and wow it was amazing to have sunny pleasant weather for it. Usually it just fecking rains....
Loving the weather, long may it continue.

Isabella | 1368 comments Enjoy, Collette, sounds as if you’ve earned it. Must admit, I’ve never really acquired a taste for brandy. Probably a result of mum giving us something called’Indian brandy’ for stomach ache when I was little. I don’t know what it was but I didn’t like it, even diluted with warm water. Strange the things we were dosed with as kids. I don’t think they’d be allowed now.

message 4659: by Collette (new)

Collette | 6186 comments I am thanks, Isabella. Yeah, when I was wee I apparently liked to do dippies with my fingers into my Dad's whisky glass. It started with one finger, then two...

I'll have to Google you're Indian brandy, ha ha.

Isabella | 1368 comments Sitting inside, looking at the rain. No sign of a letup at the moment. Is it me, or does the weather seem to get stuck in phases more than it used to? Dry for weeks, wet for weeks, dull for weeks... Perhaps it's age. Anyway, a nice bottle of red to look forward to this evening, we decided on a treat as the weather's so off.

Serial Sock Trumpet (serialsocktrumpet) | 1998 comments Note to self.

Don't organise a big strimming/gardening job for the next day, and then go out to the pub till 1am.

:0

Apart from that. ( And I did finish all the work I'd organised, sponsored by Paracetamol).
Looking forward to seeing Public Image Limited in Limerick on Friday. Wife blindly agreed to come with me, but has since heard some of their music, now less pleased to be going.

LOL!

Perhaps it took so long to do the roof that it needs replacing again?😉

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments ... You might be right, Isabella! ... LOL!!! ;o>

Another theory I have been mulling is that maybe the roof is so solid and sturdy and heavy after taking almost half a year to replace it that the rest of the house is now buckling under the weight and has to be rebuilt ... from the new roof downwards, of course! ... ;o> ;o> ;o>

Hiyah Collette ... Yes, I saw them advertised many months ago as something new instore at Sainsburys and so I bought a pack to try out. To be honest, I am not sure what Pixie made of them. I had to persuade her to try it and she is still a little hesitant on biting into foods so I ended up breaking bits off for her and we got quite a lot of it that simply crumbled into dust on the floor as a result.

Pixie is unfortunately not much of a water drinker and so I am not too keen on the idea of her having too many dry/desiccated treats, snacks or meals. She absolutely adores Sainsburys and Asda's own brands of Cat Treats and Deli Sticks which I give very sparingly as a special daily treat and so I gave up on the 'lollipops' even though I still have one left in the Treat Box.

I tried buying a Cat Fountain but, despite carefully going through all the reviews on at least 30 different ones, the one I finally chose didn't work straight out of the box and it put me off from buying another one. I do need to get one though as Pixie really needs to be encouraged to drink more and more often.

Hi Suzy. Snpwdrop didn't know what to make of her lollipop the first time we tried her with it. Gave her it on the Saturday and she finished it on the Sunday. Now she eats it within 5 minutes of getting it.

We had water problems with Snowdrop away back too. On the vet's advice we tried her with 2 different water fountains and she wasn't one bit interested. Turns out all she wanted/needed was a bowl with a plain white interior. Found that one out after buying one with a pattern inside (she must have thought something was in the water, bless her). It really is trial and error with them. Can be blooming expensive though. 😽

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments It is all endless water play here! ... completely immersing one or even both front paws, then throwing several pawfuls of water up the wall and the kitchen cupboard doors and purposely marching off with a defiant swaggering strut making sure to leave behind one soaking wet paw print on the carpet with every single step up the hallway ...

Then Pixie asks me to pick her up, and she snuggles herself into my shoulder and purrs raucously while wiping dry her still wet paw down the side of my neck! ;o>

Sadly, Val, I rarely have any reasonable quantity or quality of free time to be able to give over to book reading and, when I do have any free time, I have to admit that I generally find myself falling asleep these days ;o>

I will add them though to the long list of books, radio series, films and TV shows I really want to read, hear, and view as it sounds like these books contain echoes of wonderful memories from my own early 1970s childhood in Tipperary ;o>

Ohhh WoW! ... Boris and Doris have 2 cubs now?!! ... and what are their names?!! ;o>

Don't forget to use a large enough water bowl that you can also place a tall stone in as well as water, or you can use several Floating Bee/Butterfly Islands (they sell them on Amazon), or a bowl that has an extra thick rim around the outside. Many insects, including Bees, love to come and get a refreshing drink but sadly they can find it quite difficult to settle onto a safe perch position and, if they fall in, they can easily drown. I learnt this valuable advice from an elderly neighbour who has at least 30 Bee and Butterfly Feeders in his back garden.

You can also find advice on ... https://www.buddhabeeapiary.com/blog/...

And, you think Treacle might possibly like Purr Pops? They are small heart shaped lollipop treats made from "100% high-quality boneless chicken meat" that is fully cooked before undergoing a freeze-drying process ... and this is the link to them for sale on the Sainsburys website, Anita ...

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... trying (and failing) to feel cool enough to be able to think straight and function properly ... and buying various items online for several elderly neighbours.

I need to buy ... several different kinds of bird food for a variety of bird feeders, a 10 or 15 litre bucket with a lid, a bulk order of Complan Original in tubs, some Aptamil Multigrain Cereal, some Ellas Kitchen baby food pouches, a medium sized milk jug that doesn't drip(!), a reasonably priced pair of mens easy to slip on slippers in size 9, two birthday flowers bouquets to be delivered during next week, and a fancy tiered china cake stand for a special birthday tea.

It's a shame it's SO hot right now as I keep on with searching and pricing up various things up on Amazon and every time I do I am constantly reminded that I often also buy Chocolate Brazils, Bendicks Bittermints, and Curly Wurlys! ... LOL!!! ;o>

A lesson I learnt many years ago is to never ever buy any chocolate during the Summer months from Amazon ... unless you really do want to receive a completely melted and badly bloomed gooey mess of a favourite treat! ;oO

I can't get Pixie interested in any kind of fish flavoured Cat Food or even in a tin of Tuna ... ? ... but she does really like Salmon & Trout flavoured cat treats ... ;o>

She loves all variations of chicken flavoured cat food and cat treats ... and greatly enjoys the additional treat of finely chopped up pieces of a roasted Turkey Joint ... but is rarely ever interested in wanting to eat freshly cooked Chicken ... ! ... ;o>

I wouldn't call her a fussy or picky eater though ... she just knows what she likes and that's all that she wants ...

Snowdrop's terrible at times. She would eat treats all day rather than her proper food. D wasn't very happy at the total lack of meat in her Felix and Whiskas so went out and bought all these pouches of Regal chicken and tuna in jellies, sauces etc as they had at least 30 odd percent meat (I think it may have been even more than that, unlike Felix's 4 percent). Snowdrop ate the first one, then turned her nose up. Yet something else we had to give away. Re fresh cooked stuff, I cooked Madam a salmon fillet last night...and she totally dingied it!

She costs us a bloody fortune...wouldn't change her for the world though.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Aren't they funny?!! ... LOL!!! ;o>

My Mum still can't get her head around a Cat not being the slightest bit interested in freshly cooked Chicken and still tries to tempt Pixie with tasty morsels that always end up unwanted in food waste.

But freshly cooked Turkey Joint? ... Oh boy! ... she absolutely adores it!

It seems she prefers more moist and flavourful meat and Chicken just doesn't rock her world! ;o>

Ohhh ... and all cat food MUST be in jelly! ... Pixie does not like the Gravy or Sauce varieties.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... continuing to help out Facebook friends in Ukraine and feeling utterly heart-broken as usual by just how mentally, physically and emotionally exhausted and broken they all are while also utterly in awe, as always, of their truly incredible endurance and resilience and courage while living under home skies that constantly rain down terrorist acts of death and destruction upon them.

Meanwhile my own exhausted spirits are being somewhat uplifted by getting a lot of secret and silly pleasure through the watching of a neighbour's dog, ever so stealthily and sneakily trying by degrees, working on breaking through into our garden. She is attempting to perfect her well-known Houdini-style escape skills by carefully digging out along and under the reinforced fence behind our Rockery at the bottom of the garden whenever she believes no-one is paying attention in looking at her.

It's been three days now of frequent yet brief episodes of tunnelling ... and, yes, I know that I probably should stop her ... but she is clearly enjoying being SO blissfully busy in the carrying out of all her elaborate escape plans that I simply haven't the heart to try to stop her or to draw anyone else's attention to what she is doing.

Our back garden is quite secure all the way around so, if she finally achieves her gaol, she won't manage to get any further and, after a good cuddle and a play with her, I'll simply call her Dad to come and escort her back home again just like I used to on an almost daily basis when she was a puppy a couple of years ago ... ;o> ;o> ;o>

You do seem to be in an entertaining place, Suzy, roofers, scaffolders and escaping dogs! Makes ours seem positively boring. Even the builders next door haven’t been around for months.

It certainly helps to make the day more interesting, that's for sure! ;o>

The Roofers did not come back as far as I can tell but nevertheless the scaffolding has stayed up. Maybe this is a new trend in the outside decor of houses? ... an artwork of industrial scaffolding design?

The dog is still digging while trying to figure out how to get through to our garden. Her lovely owner dug extra deep when he installed the fence to try to prevent any further daily escape missions as a puppy.

It has never bothered us in the slightest to have the dog come through and stay to play for a while but a rather nasty neighbour on the other side of their house very loudly complains whenever the dog successfully manages to get into her garden.

It took weeks to work out that she was finding the most incredible ways to jump and climb until she made it up high onto their shed roof and then she would jump down into the garden next door! She is such an incredibly clever and sweet little dog ;o>
