We first met her last May ... after looking out the window in absolute horror at the sight of a small kitten precariously climbing up the outer wall of a neighbour's house and then carefully walking across the narrow ledge of the upstairs bathroom window as though she was walking across a tightrope!

Then, after 3 days of looking after her, my Mum arranged to hand her over to a local Cat rescue group because my parents initially made it clear that they had no intention of adopting a cat and were still hoping that we might be able to manage having another dog in our lives.

Then, after managing to convince my parents that they were making a huge mistake as a cat was much more of an ideal pet for us now, we had to plead for her to be returned because the Cat Rescue group said we lived too close to a main road and it wasn't a good idea to return a stray to where they had already been wandering as she might feel inspired to wander off in search of places she had been before.

We had never intended to let her out ever again to roam freely ... but we still had to convince the Cat Rescue group of this by speeding up the planned process of spending a small fortune on a large Catio for the back garden and we finally adopted her into the family on the 18th of June last year ;o>

Cheers, Colette, have a good time!

Almost a year already then, Suzy. Time sure does fly. It still seems hard to believe that our darling Ebony has been gone 11 years now, and that come the end of May, we'll have had our beautiful Snowdrop for 4. Give catkins a 😽 from me.

It is truly amazing how Time passes ... it somehow seems to get so much faster as you get older?! ... yet I remember that Time virtually seemed to stand still when I was a child! Christmases to me felt like they were at least 2 years apart back then ... LOL!!! ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... looking out at the finally completed roof on my neighbour's house! ... ;o>

Friday afternoon, there was some sort of spectacular showdown in the neighbour's back garden that backs onto ours ... an extremely loud and very intense 'discussion' with a lot of swearing thrown in.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday passed by with no further sign of the Roofers until lunch-time of yesterday. And then, in just 4 hours, the whole of the Roof was finally worked on by all 4 Roofers (without any breaks or other distractions) until it was at last completed.

The scaffolding is still up today but I am assuming that will be the responsibility of a different company.

It looks really good to me although I know that appearances aren't everything and only time will tell if they have actually done a thorough job to a high enough standard. I bet my Neighbour is incredibly pleased to have it all done and the Roofers gone though as it took almost 11 weeks to do! ;oO

Isabella | 1368 comments Must be some sort of record, Suzy! What is it with tradespeople? We have to wait all the time for the man who services our boiler. He installed the system, so we're reluctant to try elsewhere but he does seem to have limited ability to keep to the date agreed and to be on time.

Today, I'm going to try to assemble the new bin store with Gez the gardener. Should be fun!

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... wondering if Isabella has successfully managed to assemble her new Bin Store? ;o>

Bin store successfully assembled, Suzy. The usual faff with slightly dodgy instructions but on the whole, not bad. It’s quite big but that means I can get more in than I expected. Only slight thing, as it’s raised up to make it level, I have to stretch to raise the top. It stays up, though, so it’s okay. A lot better to look at than wheelie bins and bags of grit etc!

You don’t suppose they’re leaving the scaffolding in case the job’s not up to scratch, do you? 🌧️😧🪣

message 4615: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Maybe you need a small step to save stretching to raise the top, Isabella?

It does seem a bit odd, with such good weather and so many people busy getting into doing building work right now, that such a lot of scaffolding is not urgently being needed elsewhere.

I was thinking that maybe the neighbour had to extend the hire period because the Roofers were taking so long and that is why it hasn't been disassembled and taken away yet? It will be interesting to see just how long it takes for it to finally be removed ;o>

Collette | 6186 comments What a pain in the arse day. Had to defrost Mum's freezer after realising the door hadn't been shut properly since last Thursday. And the tap water was brown for a bit. Finally relaxing with a brandy and coke (ran out of cider earlier) and watching some Diagnosis Murder, then bed.

Val H. | 22141 comments It's 31 degrees here in Melbourne today and it's the middle of autumn! Later I'll watch another episode of The Royal. I didn't know it previously (a spin off from Heartbeat which I had seen back in the day) but I've been watching an episode each night right from the beginning and I'm up to season 8. I find it hard to believe the NHS was like this in the 60s. Staff swanning off down the sea front; hotel porters moving furniture and acting as operating theatre assistants; pipe-smoking surgeons (while operating); doctors off for lunch every day; and as for receptionist Dizzy Lizzie - I don't know how she's kept her job she's so useless.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I think the original Dubai Chocolate made famous through TikTok is probably the best recipe around - as I've read that it was apparently created and then perfected by a couple of Chefs over several years of continually experimenting with it until they were finally completely happy with the result.

It is, unfortunately, only available for sale from the creators within Dubai (although some of it seems to now be showing up for sale on Amazon and other places online) and so all the other creations that you see being offered by so many other Chocolatier companies throughout the world are all made up purely through guesswork of all the ingredients and other people's ideas on how to recreate the real deal original recipe. And it sounds like many fail to deliver on the flavour and texture and pleasure judging by the reviews left on so many websites.

It seems most companies have left out some of the other essential ingredients in favour of just using a Pistachio paste which means many of them should not really be calling their own product Dubai Chocolate.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... watching in awe as the scaffolding on the neighbour's roof seems to finally now be being dismantled one piece at a time by one man! ;oO

Maybe there is no-one else available? ... and he has no car/van of his own? ... but, every week day since Monday of last week, the same guy has turned up at around 2pm to dismantle a single piece and then leave with it!

Perhaps he goes home by Bus and the Bus Driver won't let him onboard with anymore than just one piece of metal tubing tucked under one arm?!! ;o>

It is going to take several months to finally finish removing all of the scaffolding at this rate! ... LOL!!! ;o>

Your view seems to be very entertaining, Suzy! We get birds, squirrels and, occasionally, a muntjac but all they seem to do is eat and chase each other round.

Do you suppose he's taken inspiration from the slow food movement? Slow building? Although that seems to be normal, judging by progress next door. Every few months, the builder says he "has to be finished by..." and every few months, he's still pootling along, not even turning up for days at a time.

Yes, if you see the chocolates on their website, it's a real labour of love. $18 a bar seems ridiculous at first but then you compare to the ludicrous prices of somewhere like Hotel Chocolat, it's not so exorbitant for a unique, hand crafted bar.

Collette | 6186 comments Hi Suzy. I'm due an eye test in the summer I think, so I'll mention it then (or before that if it gets worse). Might mean getting an operation sooner rather than later and that'll mean 20/20 vision in both eyes (got my right one done November 23). x

A bit sad that one of my favourite wee Etsy shops "Second Hugs" is closing down. I was hoping to get another fur baba from them some time in the future but that's not to be. Just glad I was able to give a home to Pandora the panda and Kitty and Luna the cats.

I don’t know if this is useful to you, Collette but when I got my second eye done, the surgeon suggested not going for the full 20/20 in that eye. (I can’t remember the final prescription). Having been quite short sighted, I missed being able to see fine detail. I don’t need specs for anything except threading needles, I can read quite small print, so no faffing with reading glasses, unlike G. Of course, individuals vary with their sight and what they want but it might be worth considering and asking the specialist? Just thought, too big difference isn't a good idea, as it can mess with your depth perception and balance but I don't suppose any eye specialist needs telling that!

Hi Isabella. I can't remember exactly what point thingy they did my right eye in (0.3 or something), but I think when I do get my left one done I'll see if they can do it to the same point or whatever it's called. I just know that when I got my eyes tested after the 4 weeks or whatever it weas that the optician said I now had 20/20 vision in that eye.

In the past couple of months a strange thing has happened on 2 or 3 occasions. A weird feeling then my vision has went wonky. The last time D and I were watching a film and it took 10 or 15 minutes for it to come back again. If i covered one eye with my hand it was ok but my two eyes together it was as if someone had changed the prescription on my glasses or something and everything was distorted. Probably far too much time on the computer knowing me.
