One pint of shandy and I'd be anybody's. Anybody's!

I'm here. Just recovering today after doing a few shots of chlorhexidine antiseptic mouthwash last night. :-)

Isabella | 1368 comments Today we're putting up our Christmas tree. My sister would have been 74 today and it's been the tradition in our family to do the decorating on her birthday so I'm keeping it up although she's gone. The older we are, the longer the list of losses ... So, if anyone should be raising a glass later, please spare a thought for Pam, she was loving, kind and clever, the best of sisters.

message 4509: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Awww, I'm raising my mug of Kenco Latte to your sister, Isabella ... x

I am still undecided on whether to put up a Christmas Tree in our home this year. Perhaps I will, as it is something that keeps on coming to mind several times a day and so I feel there must be some small part of me that still wants to embrace Christmas and put the Tree up.

It also depends on whether I still have the ability and the energy to go up the ladder into the attic space this year and bring it and everything else that goes with it down.

Neither. Its just one of the few things in my house that contains alcohol - and my rose water cleanser/toner does too but its very floral so i wouldn't want to drink it! I think there is a small amount of brandy lurking in the kitchen somewhere.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... operating on absentminded autopilot and not concentrating fully on the task at hand ... which is why I have spent the best part of two hours using a soapy dishcloth fastened to the end of an old broom handle to dab clean the spattered remains of a lovely rich full-flavoured Spaghetti Bolognaise from off the Kitchen ceiling!

The polite version of this creative culinary explosion ... caused by me forgetting to put the Lid back on the Liquidizer before switching it on ... ends with me saying ... "Ooops! Oh silly me!" ... while doing a quick but thorough clean of the Kitchen,

The reality though was me standing there, dripping from top of my head to the tips of my toes, looking like I had just created a massive bloodbath of a home horror movie, and shouting and swearing so loudly that my Mum went all round the house closing all the windows so that the neighbours wouldn't hear me in full rant! ... LOL!!!

Pixie thought the splashes that hit her were absolutely delicious but was not quite as delighted by the unexpected Bath time that we both had to have ;o>

Oh yes, Suzy, there's nothing like an exploding tomato based sauce to reduce an otherwise rational being to gibbering, incoherent (scarlet) rage...

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments I have just noticed in my Bedroom Mirror that I still have one slightly red stained Eyebrow! I have naturally blond Eyebrows so the stain is quite obvious.

I think my poor old Baking Tabard will be much better off with being dumped in the new Kitchen Bin instead of attempting to try to restore it to it's previous lovely bright yellow colour in the Washing Machine.

I am definitely adverse to seeing any more lingering traces of flippin' Spaghetti Bolognaise for the foreseeable future! Why couldn't it have been my Dad's morning Porridge instead?! ... I think I could/would have coped so much better if only it had been Porridge ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... feeling utterly knackered to the level of almost complete zombification and focussing putting all of my limited free time, apathetic effort and half-hearted non-commitment into doing just about everything that definitely does not really need to be done while doing absolutely nothing of everything essential that I really need to prioritise and get done ASAP.

Yawwwwwwwn! ... after I have had a little nap with a cat ... ZZZzzzzzzz

message 4520: by suzysunshine7 (new)

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... continually trying to persuade our Cat to accept my most sincere apologies for washing all of her bedding yesterday and making it smell all lovely and fresh and clean. It was obviously a necessary and a hygienic thing to need to do but sadly she has decided to become deeply offended and has even refused to sleep in her bed overnight as a result!

Why does no-one think to tell you all about the true reality of living with a Cat until AFTER you take one in?!! ... I never ever had to grovel like this to try to get one of our darling Dogs to forgive me! ... LOL!!! ;o>

The thing about a cat is that you know you’re deserving when they allow you to make up. Dogs just have no discernment, they’re yours for a careless pat or a dog biscuit. (If a dog lover reads this, I’m toast!)

Oh yeah! ... in our previous lifetime of having Dogs I never successfully used a Toaster without suddenly having a little furry sidekick appear from seemingly nowhere to 'help' me taste-test the results! ... LOL!!! ;o>

We couldn't remove the 'clean' smell by airing the bedding out on the washing line in the garden yesterday because it was damp and frequently raining. Instead I had to rub her favourite Catmint filled toy all over her bedding and it seemed to do the trick. I checked on Pix several times during last night and she was back to sleeping in her bed again ;o>

Lesson learned ... only use half the usual amount of Fairy Fabric Conditioner ... !

You could also try Feliway pheromone spray next time, after you have washed and dried the bedding?

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Helen The Melon wrote: "You could also try Feliway pheromone spray next time, after you have washed and dried the bedding?"

That's a great idea, Helen, unfortunately though I am very wary of anything in spray form that releases a smell as my Mum has a very sensitive chest and can become very wheezy when exposed to many things like these.

In the past we tried using one of those Plug In thingymagummys that are supposed to relieve anxiety and promote calm in pets. We had hoped it might help a little with some of the fear caused by Fireworks but it made no noticeable difference apart from releasing a very slight aroma that unfortunately began triggering breathless episodes in my Mum whenever she sat in that room.

Now we avoid having any kind of strongly perfumed candles in the house or very strong smelling cleaning products. We also never have Lilies in the house either which is no great loss as we are not keen on their heavy aroma anyway and they are very messy flowers if they have not had their pollen removed and extremely toxic to Dogs and Cats.

(*sighs*) ... I'll just pop on a laundry wash, do a quick vacuum, check Mum is okay to sit with Dad in front of the TV for a couple of hours and then shut myself in the Kitchen again with the Radio on and start preparing another festive tea ... ;o>

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Thank goodness for free trials of Amazon Prime and Next Day Delivery ... I remembered to buy the 5L bottle of Ecover Washing Up Liquid but I somehow forgot to buy in enough Spontex Washups to last until the New Year! ;o>

message 4529: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Quick google of Spontex Washups. Yes, I can order them from Zon.au but they will come from the U.K. Cost is £18 for 6 x 2 packs (i.e. 12 total) - probably more than I'd want to pay. I've been using a Scrub Daddy and I think I've had about 6 months or more use out of it, but time for replacement now.

Val H. | 22141 comments While looking at Spontex Washups on Zon.uk, I loved this review by Mr.H and no, that's not my Mr H. I'm off to read more of his reviews.

"I recently upgraded my dishwashing game with Spontex scrubs, and let me tell you, it’s been a complete transformation. These aren’t just scrubs; they’re magic wands for your sink. Suddenly, washing up is less of a chore and more of a glamorous lifestyle choice.

Since incorporating these scrubs into my routine, my life has taken a turn for the fabulous. I’m talking about a full-blown makeover: my kitchen sparkles with the same brilliance as a high-fashion runway, and my evening dishwashing sessions feel like VIP events. My dishes shine so brightly that I’ve had to start wearing sunglasses in the kitchen.

My newfound glamour hasn’t stopped there. I’m now frequently mistaken for a celebrity by my toaster, and my refrigerator has taken to hosting exclusive dinner parties. As for jets, let’s just say the only thing missing from my life now is a personal jet—because these scrubs have me living like I’m on a constant high-fashion, high-flying spree. So if you want to turn your mundane chores into the ultimate chic experience, grab these scrubs and prepare for a life of runway-worthy dishwashing!"

I keep an eye on sale prices, plus S&S deals, and the extra 5% discount for buying 4+ items to get several packs of 4 Washups for around 70 to 80p a pack, Val. They are excellent but they definitely don't/won't last long enough to ever justify paying any more than just a couple of pounds for a 4 pack at most.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be ... extremely sad for everyone who is once again badly affected by the heavy floods all around Stockport and Greater Manchester today.

It came without enough warning and we are now completely surrounded by flooded areas but at least we will be okay because our village is on slightly higher ground and we live far enough away from the nearest River. The two villages either side of us though are not so lucky and so evacuations are currently being carried out before the water levels rise even higher in a few hours time.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments The seasons of the year are starting to feel rather strange these days when compared to how they always seemed to be in previous decades.

I look back to my childhood years and think about how there was a certain reliability in knowing what to expect from a Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter in the UK ... but now? ... it feels a lot less certain to me and almost surreal some days.
