Anita Bailey | 3841 comments Collette,I'm so pleased your mum is home,it is so tiring having to go back and forth to hospitals.
I am definitely going to try your cauliflower and coriander soup. The beasties love soup, our go to is butternut squash with a s much veg as I can get into it (and hide from Ted)They love cauliflower cheese so I think cauliflower soup may go down quite well, thankyou for Helens recipe.
Suzy ,I hope things going along ok for your dad.I laughed out loud when I read that pixie pats your leg and you think it may be to find what part is the plum pest and most tender.😄

Isabella - there is never ever any leftover cauliflower cheese. I can't believe such a thing ever happens!!"

Dad unfortunately seems to have lost all sense of any taste these days. And I know this to be a fact because he has never had much of a sweet tooth but now he will happily drink a small carton of Nualtra Altrajuice.

I taste tested a little bit of one the other day out of curiosity and was surprised at just how utterly revolting they are as they are made almost completely of thick gloopy Glucose Syrup. He does still love seeing his meals nicely presented though and likes to be told what all of the ingredients are. He said his version of Cauliflower Soup went down very well which can be interpreted as being high praise from him.

I've never heard of leftover Cauliflower Cheese either! ... LOL!!! ;o>

Pixie seems to be really blossoming as a character now. She has always expressed affection on her own terms but the last two weeks she has started climbing onto my lap for several seconds of a cuddle, having fun playing ball games with me, and bringing me her beloved Lion kicker toy to keep safe for her while she takes a nap.

Each day I see signs of her, slowly but surely, opening up ... finally letting go of just being a very scared but independent survivor and transforming into the most adorable little Kitten she always should have been.

It is so touching and deeply humbling to have her choose to come to me in her quiet moments and snuggle up by my side to have a blissful sleep in the afternoons ;o>

Collette | 6186 comments Frustrated yet again. I lost my David Coverdale t-shirt over a week and a half ago and still haven't found it. Got to be in either my own house or Mum's but for the life of me I don't know where, being I've searched everywhere I can think of. That'll teach me to leave things lying at my arse. 😠😠😠

Isabella | 1368 comments Things do evaporate into the ether! In the last fortnight G has lost his prescription reading glasses and his wedding ring. We’ve searched and searched … Hope you find your T-shirt, cColette

Collette | 6186 comments Its a total pain when you lose something like that especially, Isabella. I can replace my t-shirt (I'll just be 30 quid out of pocket). 😐

Looking forward to a nice relaxing day. Couple of beers in the afternoon, and my wine and a film tonight (if Snowdrop doesn't wake D up during it).

Isabella | 1368 comments Years ago, Mum lost a ring and we spent fruitless ages searching. It finally came to light when she had a new carpet in her bedroom. It had gone right under the dressing table and got caught up in the pile which was longer where it wasn’t trodden down. We don’t have carpet just a few rugs, so that’s not an option!

message 4410: by Collette (new)

Collette | 6186 comments Did G definitely lose his ring and glasses in the house, as supposed to outside, Isabella? I'm assuming you've checked in clothes pockets, down the sides of and under the sofa, under the bed, in drawers, etc? Ebony managed to get her paws on D's gold lion head ring years ago. I think we eventually found it under the living room couch. My motto with missing things used to be "it'll turn up eventually". But after T-shirt Gate I'm not so sure anymore. Good luck.

message 4411: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 1368 comments Not sure where, he just noticed it wasn’t on his finger, it’s all the weight he’s lost. So we just keep looking, inside and out and asking. It may turn up, who knows? 🤞

Collette | 6186 comments He's a creepy fella, Anita. I think I'm coming to the end of Season 1. I would watch a film tonight, but Snowdrop's bound to wake Daddy up halfway through, so it'll probably be X-Files for me later along with the usual bottle of wine.

I do wish ITVX would get Supernatural back soon though. I'm having mega withdrawals from my beautiful Jared and Jensen.

No sign of G’s ring either, Collette. 🙁 We’re still not drinking as G is dieting. On the plus side, he’s lost three stones so it feels like less of a sacrifice (and we do get one proper g&t a week). Cheers!

Well, Autumn is well and truly here, isn't it. The leaves have persisted in mostly staying shades of green here until this last week but are now very slowly but surely turning into their usual stunning array of fire colours.

The crop from the Tomatoes and Tomtatoes ended a little early this year but the Apple trees are still heavily weighed down with thousands of massive Apples and we are currently waiting on a couple of volunteers from the local Food Bank to come in the next few days to help themselves to as many as they can pick and take away.

Meanwhile the back garden remains frequently swamped by each downfall of rain and most of the flower beds have remained submerged since the first of the heavy rainfalls at the beginning of September and become popular paddling pools for the Squirrels and Birds ;o>

Nice pics, ha ha.

message 4424: by Isabella (new)

Isabella | 1368 comments Same here, Suzy, no trace of either. I wish our squirrels would take up rowing and water skiing instead of digging. The leaves are falling so there's lots of sweeping up going on but they will convert to leaf mould in the bin at the top of the garden, so that's okay. I've just planted a new bed in the top bit of the garden (pic on profile) with ground cover and various bulbs etc. Just hope it all gets established and grows before it all gets washed away. Hope you don't get washed away either, Suzy!

I've lost my headphones. I know i had them on Tuesday. I know i was listening to Spotify in Asda. I know i always have them in my pocket. I know these things to be true. Therefore, there is a temporary temporal tiny headphone sucking interdimensional portal in my pocket. Typical.

I am completely bewildered as to why such a huge majority of American people could ever possibly believe that someone that comes across as being as incredibly dangerous and completely deranged as Trump really can 'make America great again'.

He gives me such bad vibes and it genuinely disturbs and terrifies me to see such people coming into any positions of power in any country.

I have tried asking a couple of Americans on Facebook why on Earth they are wanting to vote for him but they don't seem to have any other answer beyond America is somehow 'finished' if Trump does not win. I still don't know why they think and feel like this and would like to know how voting for such an unstable and immoral man is going to change anything at all for the better?

I am guessing that maybe it is all about money somehow but I would love to know why this is happening. I get the distinct feeling that Trump could actually commit a murder in full and open view of all of his voters and STILL manage to get away with it ;o<

Found ... one small tin of Treacle (circa 1990s ?) with the 23p price sticker still on it ... I can't really explain why, maybe just for the nostalgia and sentimental reasons, but I gave it a quick wipe and then put it back in the Cupboard again ;o>

Isabella | 1368 comments Thankfully it’s not all Americans as you say, Suzy. Many of our friends are worried by the result and what it means for them and their country. The rampant self interest on display is unpleasant to say the least. What happened to a nation that has the words on the Statue of Liberty as part of its (apparent) self image? Part of the moral of this is don’t field a woman candidate. I’ve believed for decades that the US would vote in a non white male before any female and they did. I find Trump thoroughly unpleasant, although I accept that I only know his media presence which has to be taken with care but even so…

Three times in the last few years I have been taken aback by political results and Trump accounts for two of them. Heaven help us all if people don’t come to their senses soon and start to behave in a kinder, more rational manner. As far as I can tell ‘MAGA’ means make me prosper at the expense of anyone I don’t like or respect and stop them from behaving or believing anything I disagree with.

Still it’s their country, their choice. I hope it doesn’t end in tears.

The devout MAGA types seem to genuinely believe that Harris and the Democrats are tantamount to communists. There were some interviewed who recognised the huge personal flaws of the Orange one but that he was the only way to achieve greater personal prosperity and that and stemming irregular migration are worth sacrificing women's rights, Ukraine, potentially NATO etc for. A more successful version of Reform UK in other words. Clacton may just see a fleeting visit by its MP now that's settled......and then again.....

Serial Sock Trumpet (serialsocktrumpet) | 1998 comments Thing is, the Ukraine war will only end one of three ways.

Either Russia annihilates Ukraine, Ukraine annihilates Russia, or there's a negotiated peace.

Russia has proved it can throw men endlessly at the war, and Ukraine already has huge manpower issues.

It seems awful yes, to cede territory to Russia, but without some peace treaty that satisfies neither but can be lived with, thousands more men and civilians will be killed and maimed.

The problem is that this war is not really about seizing power and territory, Serial. The horrific reality is that Russia is intentionally trying to destroy every single centimetre of Ukraine whether they occupy it or not and to kill every single Ukrainian that doesn't embrace the brutal and bloody enforcement of Russian citizenship. What is really happening is a systematic genocide of the Ukrainian people.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Today I shall mostly be trying to recover the already limited use of my hands after spending most of the day very slowly working my way through destroying approx 60 Floppy Disks. This is only just one bag's worth of Floppy Disks and I have an awful feeling there may be even more to be found (tucked away by my Dad) somewhere else in the Shed.

I've had to pace myself in-between trying to get other jobs done as both my Thumbs frequently refuse to co-operate and my usual pain levels these days are almost always off the scale before I even attempt to do anything.

I have no idea what, if anything is on these Disks and no way to find out either ... but I do know that my Dad used to love to create Spreadsheets for all of the household finances and bills and to save Files containing all kinds of personal and essential info such as Bank details, birth dates, and security passwords/questions for accounts that might still be relevant.

Not knowing of any other effective way to be sure of completely destroying them before binning them, I've been lifting and bending back the slidey metal part until it comes off and forcibly prising the plastic part open on each one with an old Wallpaper Scraper. Then I've been removing the circle of Plastic Film and cutting it up into pieces with a pair of Scissors before binning all the bits and pieces.

A Facebook friend was laughing at my thoroughness and told me all I needed to do was to pass a Magnet over each Disk and he had no sympathy for all the extra pain I was putting myself through ... but the OCD perfectionist side of me still felt the need to be absolutely sure that none of the Disks will ever be useable again! ... LOL!!! ;o>

Isabella | 1368 comments The joys and rewards of gardening! I am delighted to announce (drum roll, please!) that I was digging up some alkanet on the top path this morning and an inch or so down, there was G's wedding ring. He must have lost it when we were up there showing s-i-l the new planting in the summer. We looked along there nearly every time we went up and Gez the gardener has had his eyes open but there's been so much rain it must have washed into the soil pretty quickly.
